Colorfull Kibble.....????? Are any of the following kibble colorful? Merrick - Chicken Soup - Evangers - Nature's Variety - Solid Gold - Old Mother Hubbard I'm asking because Garrett is once again bored with his kibble, and has become way too dependent on wet food to eat. He came to me eating Royal Canin [and his poop:D]. I switched him to Canidae, he did great but got bored, so I switched him to Fromm, which he's on now. These are 2 of the top brands, but they are both brown and boring. My older chow mix is fed Beneful, which I DO NOT feed to Garrett, but he does occassionally steal a few kibble from her :). I think alot of the appeal of the Beneful is the visuality - its colorful and varies in shapes and sizes . Sooooo, I would love to find a top brand of kibble that is colorful |
They do not become bored with kibble. The color is added for the humans not the dogs. In fact the dye is not even good for them. He is refusing to eat the kibble because yhou are feeding the canned. Stop feeding the canned or give just a smalla mount 1 tablespoon, to whet his appetite, and then feed the kibble. He'll eat it if he gets hungry. Some say give them 15 mnutes to eat and then pick it up. he will soon learn to eat when fed or it will be gone. They will all hold out for the canned if they know that you will give in. |
Thanks Jeanie, I think subcontiously I knew this. Bad Mommy huh :embarasse. I think I'm gonna gradually decrease the amount of wet food he gets, then give it every two days or so. Which kibble do you use? |
I buy wet food that's a little squishy so that I can coat the kibble with it. I give him straight kibble in the morning and then a mix of kibble and wet for dinner. |
You could always try adding food toppers or freeze dried raw to the top of his kibble. I have some liver biscotti sprinkles on my website too that you can shake on the food. I've never had a problem getting my two to eat kibble even though they also get canned, fresh cooked, freeze dried, etc. They eat whatever I give them because they know for *that meal* that is what they get. It's also probably easier to feed kibble for breakfast because they are the most hungry and then give them canned for dinner. IMO there's nothing wrong with feeding a high quality canned food all the time as long as you brush their teeth. I like Natures Variety. You could also try Innova - mine seem to really like their Innova small bites. There's also nothing wrong with changing foods every couple months. :D |

food is only "colorful" because dyes have been added- so you REALLY don't want a colorful food :p And what is wrong with him eating canned food? |

You might want to try putting a little warm water over his dry food...it will make a light gravy and soften the food a bit for him. I do this for my crew at dinner time and they love it. |

I thought the same thing. All Breed's deserve good food. |

I did alot of reading before I got my Yorkie this year, and spoke to other Yorkie owners, and one of the things that was repeated by everyone, is how delicate the breed could be and how important it was to feed them good food. My vet also told me that diet played a much bigger role in the health of purebreds vs mongrels. I'm not in any way saying that she doesn't deserve good food, I rescued her because I thought she deserved to live, but I just kept her on the food she was on. |
i know what you mean. I tried to switch Tyke from Diamond Puppy food to Chicken soup for puppies (which is the same company) but guess what he want eat the Chicken soup puppy food. he will pick out the diamond puppy food and leave the other. I'm tired of trying to switch him.....he's always ate this food and he won't change. :) every thing i try to switch him to he will not eat it. |
I feed Harley Merrick. It is brown but has the dehydrated fruits and veggies in it. I like that there are several varieties of kibble that you can switch back and forth on without the transition time involved with switching brands. Right now Harley is eating Turdurken and loves it!
