Gastritis? Anyone had a dog with gastritis? My Cavie, Lou was just diagnosed (that explains all the farting and vomiting...) and I just wanted to hear other people's experience with treatment and healing. Its not Parvo, just inflammation of his gastro...:( |
99.9% of all medical problems stem from commercial pet food and over inoculating. Take her off of all foods giving only water for at least 24 hours. The system needs to clean out. Then only try meat baby food for a couple of days to see if she gets better. After that I would feed real food. (be sure to give vitamins along with the baby food) |

Miko also has gastritis...His actually lead to him vomiting blood once which was incredibly scary. Definitely no dog food...that stuff is terrible for them...I'm convinced that his gastritis came about because of the prescription food he was on for so long before we started homecooking. While he was on dog food, he ALWAYS burped/belched after meals and had gassy issues... Carafate helps coat the stomach and really helps with that. Here are some links that are excellent resources of info... Merck Veterinary Manual Merck Veterinary Manual Really high quality probiotics are extremely important, IMO, in these cases.... I use VSL#3 now (b/c of his liver disease and GI issues), but Udo's makes a good one as well..I believe it's the children's blend. |
Thanks for all your advice! Louis has been on a 100% natural, holistic diet (raw fed) for almost a year. He had HORRIBLE diarrhea and vomiting when I got him, and between all of the conventional treatments (antibiotics) and innoculations, I think it just put him in a state of regular inflammation, probably exacerbated by stress. The raw diet and holistic lifestyle keeps him stable most of the time... He sees a holistic vet, we now do titers rather then vaccines. I think we are on the right track, its just been a 2 year journey and this is the first time anyone said the word "Gastritis" to me. Last night I came home to vomit everywhere and he couldn't keep anything down, so we went to our emergency vet to give him IV fluids. Both my regular vet and the er Vet think that its my stress (I am going through a divorce) and he may of eaten something off the ground which upset his already sensitive tummy. We are going to see the holistic vet later today (I love my vet! She was on the phone with me at the Vet ER) to get some herbal anti-inflammatories and perscription strength probiotics. And we are going on a bland homecooked diet of brown rice and boiled chicken to start...He may be unable to handle raw... |
