It's just my opinion but those who do use this product seem to have
wonderful results so it can't be all bad. Right? I think personal testimonies
certainly have their merit when asking those for recommendations on a
product. I purchased coolnclear by the recommendation of some member's
and Buddy threw up on it! It works for some but dosen't agree with other's but that dosen't make me slam it. If it works for you thanks for
recommending it but it just didn't work for us is all. End of story.
Yorkies are known to loose their teeth at an early age. It's in every book
I read on this breed. Perhaps it is also genetic to loose teeth early I don't
know. Do with this information as you will. The question from the OP has
been answered by many. Whatever you choose to do it your choice.
But Petzlife works and is safe. After 4yrs of having used this product
on my pet I stand by it.

On another note, my Mom's Yorkie girl who is just over 6 lbs has high anxiety to the point of it being really scarey. One time on the plane she was so bad that her heart was racing and her tongue turned purple. There was a Doctors Wife on the plane and she told my Mom to put a couple of drops of Jack Daniels on her finger and onto my Moms Yorkies tongue. And it did the trick, she calmed down and she returned to a 'good' state.

It was only about 2 or 3 drops on her finger and onto her tongue. I am not sure what proof J.D. is, but it sounds about what we do with the Petzlife.....

Everyone is going to have their own opinions and that's fine. To me, I would rather not feed my guys alcohol like that on a daily or even a few days a week basis.

have there been alot of dogs dying under anesthesia when anesthesia is done properly and honestly i would only have a board certified dentist do a dental for mine as that is all they do all day long and i feel is the safest way. I used petzlife for a year exactly the way it was designed per instructions and she still had gum disease from not having a proper dental. I think where dogs die under anesthesia is when the vets do not use the iv fluids and catheterization, isoflurine or sevoflurine, and propofol and take short cuts and that is what i have read as a maltese on my group died because vet did not do this and she warned us all about it also not getting blood work and urinalysis prior to anesthesia. There is definitely a risk to anesthesia but having a dog loose 27 teeth due to my fear of it has definitely changed my tune and had i not done this dental she could have lost more bone and fractured her jaw on a piece of kibble and then it would have been a bigger mess and her blood work was showing signs of kidney issues so i do not want someone to think petzlife is going to cure that situation and once the teeth are loose you are beyond any home care trust me and what you feel is loose there are many more in danger than what you see on surface. I went to bc dentist who tries to save teeth and he removed 27 - vets do not even try to save teeth so that is how bad it was and i have to live with that decision to not do dentals sooner and thinking the petzlife would have reversed all tartar and she did not need a dental - that is one me but i have to share this even though it is embarrassing to me as i am a smart person but this was very stupid of me - I should have done the dental when she was 3 like vet said but no i bought petzlife gel and thought that would cure her problem. If it works for you preventatively that is great but if your dog has alot of tartar, inflamed gums get a dental to get a fresh clean start. And if any loose teeth get in immediately as it is only going to get worse not better as one infected tooth can cause the disease to spread fast. Within 2 weeks demi went from 4 loose teeth to 10 that i felt :(

My vet offers anesthesia-free dental cleanings done by a specialist. I haven't done this and am not sure how effective it would be....However, my dogs are on a raw diet (prey model style) and the crunching on the raw bones has thus far kept their teeth sparkly white and tarter free.

I do keep Petzlife on hand and use it/brush 1-2 times a month just as a supplement to ensure dental health. Between the liver problems with Yorkies and the heart problems with Cavaliers, dental health is a top priority in my house!

it is also in rescue remedy and dogs are given that as well or rubbed on ears to calm them. They give it to my dd for blood draws as she gets so spastic

She was given the Rescue Remedy before boarding the plane, so the RR combined with her anxiety was doubled. The RR I think worked the opposite way, it was so scarey. My Mom thought her girl was going to die and when her tongue turned purple :eek:

Yeah, I give my dogs Rescue Remedy when they need it and have never had a problem. But both are young and healthy. I wouldn't advise anyone whose dog has a compromised liver or anything to use products without consulting with a HOLISTIC vet. I really believe most (not all!) conventional vets are not educated on these products and are more interested in money then our babies anyway...thats been my experience.

my friend feeds her maltese a raw diet and they eat ground turkey necks and chew on bone marrows and her maltese are 2 and they are both going in for dentals today with the dentist we saw as they have tartar-- I think alot of it is genetics as my dad has periodontal disease as a human and had open heart surgery a year ago. They say the plaque that builds on your teeth is a sign of the plaque building up in your arteries and people with gum disease tend to have heart disease so seeing it first hand with my dad i believe it to be true. So even though demi, dee dee and dex are all 4 demi had the most plaque and horrible breath which is a huge sign of gum disease which i kept thinking digestion -uh hello another bad move - i was in big time denial and fear of anesthesia. Bad breath is kidney and gum disease btw and once you rule those out u go to digestion issues not the other way around.

It really depends on dog and why big dogs do not have gum and teeth issues yet little dogs do it is alot of times in the genetics

the non-anesthetic is good for routine but it does not get under the gum line where all the problems are and yorkies tend to be a little more hyper at least mine are and if they are not calm damage of gum can happen and it is very stressful on dog as they do not understand what is going on like we as humans do so if your dog is calm great but you still need professional cleanings definitely if inflamed gums, bad breath, and loose teeth

we see dr. jean dodds and she does all our blood draws and gives the rescue remedy

Couldn't agree more with everything you said. I think the raw diet helps - but I get my babies vet checked and if they need a dental, they will get one. Ella Bean, my Yorkie needs her teeth brushed twice as often as my Cavalier and she gets plaque and bad breath much quicker. Genetics are the great equalizer and all we can do is be mindful pet parents and engage in preventative care and give them dental cleanings when they need!
