Hair Loss Okay... so Bella has had a spot on her lower back with thinning hair since I got her. The spot has now expanded to the other side; straight across her back. When I got her she had very dry (almost crusty) skin in this area. The vet I took her to the day after I got her said to use a special hydrating shampoo, which I have been. When I got her home (from CA), she also went to see her (now) regular vet and said that it could just be the aftermath of the dry skin condition; she was checked for fleas-but didn't have any. I kept her on the same food she was eating (royal canin) and just switched yesterday to blue buffalo-chicken & brown rice yesterday in case it's a food allergy. I don't usually keep shirts on her all day, but I did 2 days last week and may have made it worse. Does anyone have any other suggestions??? |
Your vet needs to do a skin scrape and check for mites |

I forgot to add - she has an appt on the 17th where I was going to request the scrape for mites. My question on mites or a food allergy is... wouldn't it be more of an all over thing and not just on her lower back? |
When Chachi had it it was just on his back. It started in one spot and it kept spreading |
Oh and if its an allergy it would be a hot spot. Your vet will be able to narrow it down more after the skin scrape |
:thankyou2 |
okay... well it is not mange/mites because we had the skin scrape done last night. (Thank goodness they took her out of the room to do it) Any more suggestions, because the vet offered me nothing-except come back in a couple of weeks (and pay for another office visit). |
Ringworm is dry and crusty and will spread if not treated. It's a fungal infection. |
skin You might try corn meal baths. Corn Meal is very good to treat fungal infections of the skin. Its an all natural approach. My daughter's dermatologist told her about it. Best to purchase all natural/organic corn meal. But the other will work. Soak your baby for at least 10 to 15 min. with the corn meal paste while in bathe water. She could also have a grass allergy. |
