Is fowl odor normal? My yorkie was laying in my lap when io was caught down wind of an odor coming from his rear end. I'm pretty sure the odor came no suddenly since he had been laying in my lap for sometime. I just thought it was odd since his rear end seemed to be clean. The smell was bad enough that i had to give him a quick bath. So i am wondering if this is normal, was the smell already there maybe from the last bowel movement he had and i just didn't notice it? It has been about 2 weeks since i got the puppy and i never this odor before, my husband thinks that maybe he just had some smelly gas, but i thought the smell was really strong and it lingered on him and it was not going away. ig the odor was caused by a bowel movement what can i do prevent odor clinging to him, can the hair around his rear end be shaved so the feces have nothing to cling too? |
it could be an anal gland problem. |
Actually the area around the anus should be shaved (very carefully!) Maybe you could ask a groomer or your vet how to do it. If the smell was kind of a bit fish like it could come from the anal glands which can be cleaned out too. A groomer or a vet can help you there too... |
I would catch a whiff of that smell coming from Daisy once in a while, so when I took her to the vet a week ago, I had him check her anal glands. Sure enough, one was very full. She never dragged her butt, it was just that smell. Have your groomer or vet check it out for you. I'm sure they are more comfortable after they are emptied, if need be. Tammy |
