1 year old Yorkie knees pop Help! Hi I'm new to Yorkie Talk. I hope there is someone here who can help me. I have a 1 year old 2lb yorkie (Ella) she is normally very healthy but lately when she walks her knee joints pop. It does not seem to hurt her but I have read a lot about yorkies and know there is a joint issue with this breed. Is there a dog food or a supplement I can give her to keep her from having joint problems in the future?? She is on Wellness super5 for small breeds. Please Help!! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. :) If her knees are popping, it could be luxating patella. You can give her glucosamine (my first choice is Cosequin) to help prevent further damage but depending on how bad it is, some dogs need surgery. Since this just started, I would ask your vet to take a look and talk to them about supplementing with glucosamine. Does she ever carry her back legs or does it ever look like she is skipping? |
She does skip on her back right leg. |
mine is 5yrs old w/ a luxating patella. i feel it pop , but i don't think it hurts him. |

The vet might be able to tell you what stage it is be palpating and then maybe do x-rays if he/she thinks it may need treatment. |
Thanks so much for the help. Can you tell me where to get the Cosequin and how much to give?? And again thank you very much! |
