Home cooked for the first time for my girls! My girls have been on NV raw for over a year now. And they love the raw and doing really well on it. But I want to rotate their diet and also give them variety. So i have been consulting with the nutrionist and decided to give them homecook meals also. They will get the NV raw in the morning and the homecook food at night. I used to think homecooking was hard but it was pretty easy. I cooked organic lamb with sweets potatos, liver, tripes, butternut squash, carrots, peas and added the supplements at the end. I use solid gold seameal and bone meal as a supplement. I can't wait! so excited!!! |
oh, also forgot to mention that i only used organic meat and organic vegetabless and it was not expensive to make it at all. Only cost me around 30 bucks to make a month worth of food. |
Wow, I'm surprised that a raw feeder is starting to homecook.:) I have found that homecooking is at least three to four times more expensive than feeding kibble without using great ingredients. I'm not even sure that includes the supplement. But Ellie likes it, so oh well.:) Do your pups prefer cooked or raw? |

my girls love both NV raw and homecooked. They are happy to eat both as long as mommy hand feed them..so spoiled. seriously though, you are one of the people that made me want to learn more about homecooking and thank you so much for that! |
Aww, you're welcome.:) I'm am still shocked though. Most raw feeders think that that is the only way to go (and I'm not saying they're wrong). What makes you and your nutritionist believe that feeding raw and homecooked together is better than feeding just raw? |
i talked to the nurtionist about the diet that they are on and i also said i still want to keep them on it but i want to give them healthy alternative also. And he said both raw and homecooking are the best thing you can do for the pups and it's okay for me to rotate between 2. but it is not better than just feeding raw alone. they are both equally good for the pups.:) |

Most of the raw feeders I know are passionate about it and won't feed anything cooked. |

No really, I think that bc when feeding pre-made raw - variety can be tough for some (if some dogs *only* like certain flavors) - so tossing in other things (cooked), with different flavors (therefore, diff. nutrient makeup) was what she's really getting at to provide variety. She is by no means a hard-core raw feeder - not at all. She feeds raw, feeds cooked - and will recommend diets based upon the dog and the owner. :) |

Nor am I "against" kibble. I help folks w/ kibble in here every day. |
I love feeding raw but i can only do premade raw. It's really convinent for me with my busy scheldule. But my girls only like lamb or venison. they won't eat any other protein source. So homecooking is the other variety that i can give to them. I don't want to do kibbles. I can't do prey model raw as i can't site there and wait for them to finish and clean up after. I hand feed all 3 of my girls..:) I am only doing the homecooked because i really feel like that is the 2nd best thing for them beside raw. Like Anne said , for us premade raw feeders with picky babies, it's hard to find other alternative meal plans. |
Congrats!! :) Variety is so important :) |
