Allergy's under control. After getting a sample of Holistic Select Anchovy, Sardine & Salmon Meal Formula from Eagle Pack foods, I tried Pippin with it and he picked at it but still wanted to eat his old food that had chicken in it which he is allergic too. I decided that when his regular food was all gone I was going to leave the bowl of holistic stuff down and he ate that, so now I'm proud to say that he's no longer eating the food that was bad for him. He's scratching less and less now and he's been eating that food without having any of the other stuff mixed in for about 2 weeks now. He ate the two little sample packs within about a week and we bought him a big bag and he loves it. |
That's great!! |
I too, use this and it seems to agree very well with all 5 of my dogs |
Great testimony for a fish kibble and how great they can be for allergies! :) |
That is wonderful news! :cheer: I am so glad that your little one is doing so well on it! :D |
He seems to love it. We free feed so it's always there but usually at dinner time he gets some pork (we buy the strips already cut up for stir fry and freeze them in 3-4 day servings), rice and baby carrots and he loves that.. then usually right after he'll go pick at his bowl of kibble. I think he thinks the carrots, pork and rice are dessert.. lol. |
How did you find out he was allergic to chicken?? What did he do when he ate it? Was it kibble or cooked chicken? THANKS |

It was about 2-3 weeks after being off the medication that his scratching returned and we were still giving him chicken and then we started noticing that right after eating chicken he'd start scratching really bad so then we figured it was chicken, and we went back to the vet and she said the most common food allergies in dogs is to Chicken and Beef. We've cut out anything with those two things in it and he's doing better. It took us a long time to switch his food because he's so picky but now he likes what he's eating and the vet told me that it would take a full 6-10 weeks to get the old food out of his system. I wanted an allergy test done on him but where i live they don't do them I'd have to make a 5 hour trip and I was told that it's really expensive and the results are inconclusive. |
I've concluded that Abby is allergic to corn & wheat.. Maybe other things I haven't figured out yet. She was on Canidae, but because of the formula change, I switched them to Natural Balance and I'm happy to say her eyes aren't watering and she's not scratching like crazy! (I bought them sweet potato and fish yesterday) Last night my Mom made the furbabies all some treat bags with some kind of treats that I know are full of corn and other grains, I'm sure. To make my mom feel good, I broke one up and gave some to Abby and Daisy. They were both scratching and Abby's little face looks like it has been soaked :( Never again. Mom doesn't have to know :D I'm so glad your little one is finally eating his "good for him" food and he's not itching...that's great! |

Kelly, Did your vet do any testing to come to that conclusion? The reason I ask is because I'd like to know for Abby's sake. If there's testing available, I would consider doing it. She may very well be allergic to other things too. For right now though, she's greatly improved :) Thanks in advance, Tammy |
