Neutering senior aged Yorkie I have 2 Yorkies, male and female. The female has been spayed after 2 litters of puppies. My male yorkie has not been fixed, and now our new vet is strongly encouraging us to get him fixed. He is 8 years old. Does anyone know if this will affect his relationship with the female yorkie? I've heard some horror stories about how the female becomes dominant with the male and stuff like that. Just wanted to gain some insight and opinions. Thanks! |
I would have him neutered. 8 yrs is still kinda young :D |
Not sure what the right answer is but I am curious to see how it turns out. Does the vet have a reason he is strongly encouraging it? I realize thier our health benefits but thier are also risks involved. If it was me I would need a medical reason to do it at that age. |

We had a female Brittney Spaniel spayed at 6 months and became incontinent, so I tend to be sceptical because it has impacted her life so much. |
i'd get him neutered now. 8 years old is still young. you don't want to have to put him under anesthesia later on in life because he developed a perineal hernia, prostate problems, or scrotal problems. it just makes things easier. remember age isn't a disease. as long as he's healthy otherwise there should be no problem with anesthesia. |
