Pup eating other dog poo- Please help! Hey everyone! Havent been on in a while! I am having a problem with my pup and I wanted to see if there were any suggestions. My partner has a daschund and she pee's and poo's on a pee pad. MY dog unfortunately has been eating my partners dog poo.:( I try my hardest to pick the pads up and dispose of them before it happens, but sometimes I just dont get it in time! So the vet suggested getting FORBID. Has anyone tried this? And has there been any negative affects by it?? I would hate to get my partners dog sick because of my puppies bad habit! I've read she may grow out of it, but I dont foresee that happening anytime soon. Also, does anyone know if eating poo is harming my dog? :confused:This cant be good for her.. Please respond with any suggestions you may have! I really appreciate it. Thanks! |
Yeah, eating poo isn't great for them. You can try Forbid. I used Solid Gold's S.E.P. (stop eating poop) for my Wylie when he did that a long time ago, worked GREAT. What is the other dog eating btw, for dog food? There is some thought that foods with grain cause more poop-eating (bc grains are often underdigested and/or undigested in the poo) than grain-free foods. Feeding the highest quality food you can results in more absorbed food in the digestive tract - so, less "food" in the poo - making poo less attractive, theoretically. But, you often have to break the habit as well. Other folks say sprinkling meat tenderizer on the food works the same way as Forbid or SEP. |
get fresh pineapple, put it in their food, it tastes nasty when they try to eat the poop. |
The active ingredient in Solid Gold's SEP (and similar products like Deter and Forbid) is Glutamic Acid, which is essentially the same thing as MSG (monosodium glutamate). Thus, I'd caution anyone using this product to keep an eye open for adverse reactions commonly associated with MSG. This is from a CNN article referencing a WebMD article and discusses human reactions to MSG but it seems that certain ingredients can cause reactions in both our pets and ourselves: Quote:

Some dogs eat their poo and some don't. It can be a problem when you use the pee pads because it is there waiting for them to eat if you are not paying exact attention to when they potty.....not like when you are walking them and they poop and then you walk away. You just might try to keep an eye on them and pick it up as soon as you can. That is what I have been doing. My yorkie goes about the same time every day and if it lays there she is after it. But I love the freedom of when she needs to go potty and she runs over to the pad and goes. We never have to go outside in the rain, cold, or extreme heat. Just when we want to. My vet did give me some Forbid but I never used it. I thought I read something about it. I can't find it now. It may have been that it contains Wheat Gluten and wasn't that part of the recalled dog food problem last year????? |
