Black specks, not fleas. Staph infection? Has anyone heard of 'flea dirt' like little black specks being a staph infection. My Oliver has been treated for fleas regularly this summer but I still find little black specks on his back and shoulders. Just one here and there. Not on his belly. Seems like I read somewhere that it could be a staph infection. Has anyone else heard this too? I do not see fleas and don't think it's fleas, but I just don't know what else it could be. Otis does not have them, only Oliver. |
Ive read that before on here also. Youll know its flea dirt if you wet it it turns red |
Wanted to add....They are stuck to his skin, I find them when I'm petting him and pull them off. They do not fall off on blankies or furniture. |
1 Attachment(s) Lady has had a staph skin infection before and that's not what it looks like. They start with little red pimples that ooze and crust over. I've attached a Google picture of what staph looks like. Have you taken him to your vet? |
No. I've been thinking of taking him because his eyes are tearing so bad and he gets the reddish stain. I treat his ears with ente derm and that helps the tearing but doesn't stop it. He doesn't scratch excessively and has NO red spots or patches anywhere. Just these stupid specks every now and then. I think I'll have to take him to ask about his eyes and ears and mention the specks. Our vet is a 36.00 office call and I'm on a tight budget, so I'll have to wait til next week. I was hoping that because he is acting fine and has no sores, that I could gather more information before I take him in. |
