Teeth Cleaning? I have about a 10 yr old yorkie and when we got him 2 years ago from the shelter we had his teeth cleaned profesesionally where they put him under and did his whole mouth. Since then, we give him treats to help with the teeth but only brush his teeth once in a while. It looks like there is some build up on his teeth, like a yellowing and tartar build up. Should he be brought to the vet again for a cleaning? Or could we just start to brushing him weekly maybe to see if the plaque goes away? :D |
I had to have my Pixie's teeth professionally done a few months ago and now I brush or wipe her teeth every day and they are still getting a little yellow. You could try brushing more often and also ask your vet what he advises. My other yorkies teeth are much better so I guess it just depends on their genetics too. |

We just got our little one a little over a month ago from a rescue and had her teeth cleaned when they spayed her. She is 3 years old and probably had never had anything done to her teeth prior to us taking care of it. Our vet recommended we brush her teeth every day at least once but she wants nothing to do with it! We continue to work with her on it... but does anyone have suggestions on what we can do so that her teeth stay clean? At least until she is more comfortable with the idea of brushing her teeth! |
My maltese just had 27 teeth removed due to gum disease at 4 1/2 because i was fearful of putting her under for dental and she got loose teeth. I screwed up big time so get yearly dentals just like us as humans as it is real important :( I brushed daily with gauze and cet toothpaste but once it is hard and on the teeth it cannot be removed unless you have a professional dental and i even used petzlife gel for a year so make sure to stay up on it as i feel horrible as had i had her in 2 years ago she would still have teeth probably:( a good sign of gum disease is bad breath so even more cause to get in sooner as demi has had bad breath since she was about one and i should have known better but i kept thinking the petzlife would reverse the tartar but once the bacteria is under the gum line there is chance for gum disease and that is when you have big problems. Demi may even lose more teeth this next year as she had so much bone loss - please learn from my mistake :( I even took her to a board certified dentist and he could not save the teeth and i do recommend a bc dentist over vet as that is all they do - more expensive but worth it i think |
