Need healthy food ideas for spoiled sick Bella Everyone knows Bella was spayed on Monday. Then got diahrrea. She's being treated by the vet for the diahrrea, but is so spoiled she won't eat her regular raw, or kibble diet. I've even tried mashed potatoes. The diahrrea is some better. I'm giving her water in a syringe to make sure she stays hydrated. She did eat a chicken strip, which is good, but she's getting so darn demanding while she's not feeling well. Any suggestions? Ann said Pumpkin, I'm going to get that, but while I'm at the store I'll pick up anything else you guys think would be ok for her to eat. H E L P:confused::eek::( |
When Baxter was a puppy and he wasn' eating good enough, I got some Gerber stage 2 or 3 (can't remember) chicken babyfood. It comes in little jars...the turkey is good too. You can let her lick it off a spoon and she will think she is being VERY SPOILED. This is what the breeder recommended, stating that no dog can resist it, and for my gang....it worked. I still keep a few jars on hand for when they come back from their shots...sometimes they seem weak. |
I have some here, and I don't know why I didn't think about it. I gave it to Bernie when he had a hypoglocemia attack many month ago. You don't think the change in food might upset her tummy more do you? I guess if baby's get it, it must be ok. I'll let you know. Thanks |
Just check the fat content in baby food. And keep in mind... when you start feeding her people food.. there is no going back :p home cooking is great- we do it... even before Layla got diagnoised with pancreatitis... But chicken is great- so is turkey breast- baked- mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes- you can try some apple sauce- yogurt- which is great for an upset tummy... and that's good if you are just doing this short term- if you end up doing it long term she needs a veggie- and the proper K/cals per day and a supplement/vitamin. But if you end up doing this long term (and something tells me you will :p ) i'm happy to help.. it's really easy once you do it once :) |

The amount of K/cal per day depends on the weight of your dog. I consulted a dog nutritionist to get the proper amount needed. Layla also gets a pro biotic to help with digestion and a special enzyme for a health issue. Keep in mind the supplement does contain garlic- not something that everyone thinks is great for dogs but in my opinion she is eating such a small amount of it- that i'm not worried- and many dog foods also contain garlic- again in small amounts. quick picker upper... When our little one is sick the best picker upper for us has been to make some free range chicken breast in boiled water put the rice and simmer till rice and chicken is cooked ..after u just give the rice and breast meat cut up..u could also add a small snip of fresh garlic while cooking and a touch of sea salt..it has minerals in it. also the diarreah could be from antibiotics if she is on those ? |
Thank U for ur reply on the informantion... We do give our dog garlic in the food..of course small quantities.. but also small amounts of sea salts as they have nutrient/ mineral values... i see u are in Ontario...did u find the nutritionalist here or on the net ? Thx again :) |

Reggie had diarrhea for awhile...I feed him a bland diet of chicken and rice w/ 1 tablespoon plain pumpkin for 3 days...then slowly added canned wellness...decreasing the "people food"...then I transitioned the wellness by adding kibble. Btw, while he had the diarrhea he was eating and drinking fine, but he still needed an iv with fluids after 5 days of diarrhea |

Oh hiding it from the siblings was impossible here. Sometimes I thought Ramsey and Reese were giving Reggie stuff...just so he would have diarrhea and THEY got chicken too. Not really...but let's just say...they weren't too upset eating chicken and then canned food. I literally did what I told you....they ate the "real" chicken...then I mixed that with wellness canned foods...and just kept decreasing the amount of chicken. Wellness offers a canned chicken which is 95% chicken...any way...after they were eating the canned alone...I gradually added the kibble. They are eating Taste of the wild venison and bison formula. They are CRAZY about this stuff....much more than any other kibble I fed. I should say...none of mine have ever been picky eaters. I went through all of that because of Reggie's continued diarrhea and I had eliminated all the possiblities but his food as the culprit. Btw, Reese's mom...does not eat dog food. Ever. And not from lack of trying on her owner's part. She's just a chicken kinda gal. :) |
