I use wet food for chester and then the salmon oil otherwise he would not eat it. |

If I had to do it over again, it would probably be Nature Made. Ellie needed 400 IU a day for her liver which isn't necessary for most dogs. My guess would be 100 IU or less but maybe someone knows for sure? |

Brooke, Emma was allergic to Missing Link too (got the itchies from it!) so we discontinued it. BUT I use flax oil in their food and haven't had a problem. It doesn't stink like the salmon oil does, and it has a nutty flavor. I like the idea of mixing it in with some applesauce or yogurt would work too-that would be easier for them not to taste rather than trying to put salmon oil in something sweet. You could always try it and see how they do-and if they don't like it you can always use it for yourself! ;) Just make sure to keep it in the fridge! |
Ok, where are you all getting your Salmon Oil?? (Or flaxseed oil for that matter?) I looked for it (in Walmart, heh :p) with all the other supplements, but all I could find was fish oil capsules. My kitty, Lily, had HORRIBLE dry, flaky skin so my vet advised puncturing the capsules and squirting over her food. I have 2 kitties, so I puncture one every day and squirt about half or so of it over the 2 bowls (and then throw the rest away). It has worked in just the week or so I've been doing that...much less dry skin!! AND it has worked as a "diet" too....she doesn't just binge and binge on food like she used to. Much not like it much, but it hasn't kept her from eating completely....she could stand to lose a pound or 2, so I'm not worried at all! Now, with Bella, maybe I should try the flaxseed oil instead so she'd be more likely to eat it? (Or I could just squirt the salmon oil in her mouth or add it to a treat like suggested....) And let me just reiterate....I'm supposed to be giving Vitamin E too? How much salmon/flaxseed oil AND Vitamin E should Bella (3.8 lbs) and Lily (14 lbs--cat) be getting per day? I know you can't overdose on a lot of vitamins because what you don't need just gets flushed out, but I'm not sure if those work the same way....and I don't want to be giving them too much! |
Hey girly!! What type of salmon oil are you feeding your kids? I use to give mine Grizzly Salmon Oil (and they LOVED it) but I switched them to Eicosaderm because it contains vitamin E and they love it. DermaPet Eicosaderm Liquid Pump 32 oz |

Just to clarify ... when I said I give them 3 pumps total, I meant for all 3 dogs ... NOT 3 pumps EACH. :) Sorry, I should have worded that better lol :D |
I get my Flaxseed oil at the health food store. BUT I have seen it in the organic section of my reg. grocery store too! |
