A ton of questions about my New Yorkie 1. does stress medication work? 2. why is she wet around the mouth? 3. she rubs her face on carpet and couch one way then flips and goes the other way? 3. when is a good age to get a hair cut? 4. she doesn't like to be held, but rather stay on the floor? 5. how to train when she likes the treats more than food or she doesn't eat, how can I train her? yet she never seems hungry otherwise. 6. is it normal for her to poop only twice a day maybe even once? 7. how to train her to be held and put into pet carrier? I just got her no more than 6 days ago and she is almost 4 months old. I know traing doesn't happen overnight, it takes time. I just want to get started off on the right foot and that we both are happy. |
I would put away the treats and feed her food only. maybe mix some cesars into some good dry kibble... not the best food but it seems to work for alot of people. Let her be distant, eventually she will come around. Would you hug me? of course not. at 6 months we started getting our kids groomed. start bathing now every week or two. as far as the rubbing goes, i would have the vet check her out, its like 30 bucks to be seen and see what he says about that...she could have food allergies or just doesnt like being wet after she drinks water... depending on the quality of the food she will poop 2-4 times a day. the better the food the less poops. right now the only training you should be doing is potty, stay, come...the basics. dont overwhelm her with all sorts of stuff and if you must use treats break them up into small small peices so as to not make her full. And ive never used stress meds but id just let her get acclimated before attempting them. good luck. that is all i have. Remember that i am no expert but i hope this helps. Im sure plenty of other people will have good input from their experiences. Btw congrats and just remember to have fun. |
Thank you the tips were very helpful. She has been better, I think she is going to be one of my best friends. She is eating more and has become familar with the basic comands and training pads as well. Like you said just her time and I did. Thank you |

You've come to the right place! Welcome :) |
Chester does the face rubbing thing, after he eats his wet food. I think they try to rub their scent on something. Chester only poops once or twice a day, he gets good food. He will try to get treats and not eat food, I hold out, after he eats his food he will get a bone at night. They will try to wrap you around their paws, trust me. |
Please DO NOT feed her Caesars. She needs to be on a quality food- wet food is fine if she likes that better- make the transition slowly from her old food to her new food. Try foods like Wellness, merricks, Natural Balance. |
