Someone help me calm my nerves!!!
 
Okay, so i just want to make sure that what i believe is true....My 12 mts old not sprayed female baby was napping on my lap and when i removed her, there were wet spot all over my pants!!! I thought she peed on me or was leaking urine!!! but then i smelled it and it smelled like blood, but it was tinted orangish/brownish!!! Then i noticed that her crotch smells like a dying rat!!!! (aka period blood)
Is she having her "period". I never had a female puppy before and im always paranoid thinking she's gonna die, lol. (a few days ago she had a tick on her and i rushed her to the emergency vet to remove it!!! I think the vet thought i was nuts!!!)
Her privates are enlarged and she is humping her dog bed (though for the past 6 mts she has been humping it off and on) but i have never noticed discharge before until tonight!!!
So let me know what it is...i was always told that dogs "bleed a lot" so when i think blood, i think bright red blood everywhere, not lil spots of browish/ orange discharge...

I would wager to bet that your puppy is in heat. Uh huh! :)

Yes, your baby is in heat. Be sure to keep her away from any males for the next 3 weeks. You can also get little diaper panties at Petsmart that you add little pads inside to keep it off the furniture, etc (like your pants)

oh goodie she is in heat!!!! I noticed today our apartment smelled like a dying rat, so maybe her period blood is all over the place?!?!?
Gross...my poor baby is no longer a baby!!!! I'll have to make a vet appt to get her fixed.. :(
Though I'm soo scared to get her fix!!! like what if they mess up and murder her!!! I couldn't live without my babyyy!!!!
Have any of you felt this way?? Scared to bring them to a vet and have surgery...

How old are you?

I wouldn't be scared to get her fixed though, she'll be fine.

I will definately keep her aways from males!! She is gonna remain pure forever!!! LOL... though lil yorkie puppies running around sounds cute!! But i would never put my baby through a pregnancy!!!!

I think you have to wait a couple of months after a dog's heat before you can have it spayed.

why does my age matter??? And I'm scared to bring her to a vet because the last two vets i went to were not very intelligent!!! So I'm going to trust my boss's judgement and go to her vet, cause i guess they are "wonderful". i just worry because she's my baby and i love her bunches!!!

I'm going to try and put this the nicest way possible, I'm not TRYING to be mean even if it comes off that way... but the way you word things :confused: comes off as being a very very young person or this certain thing with colorful hair.

As I understand though, the longer you wait on getting her spayed and the more heats she goes into, puts her at a higher risk for cancer.

wow thank you so much for insulting my intelligences!! I could have used nursing terms to describe her "problem" but then you would of had no clue as to what I was talking about.
No wonder our world is full hate with judgemental people like you!! And lets say I was very young, like 10 or 12, how do you think that comment would made them feel??? Not very good.
I actually have a sense of humor, unlike you..so i'm sorry if i offended you in anyway. I was just trying to make humor out of her situation. And also considering it is 1 in the morning and just got done studying for two major exams I may sound crazy at the moment.

Well I certainly do apologize that YOUR HUMOR came off to me as you being a young person. It's a darn tootin' computer and I can't fully see how you're responding/acting when you type. One minute you say "your intelligence" then the next minute you say you were trying to be funny, I'm confused.

And what exactly was so confusing? It made sense to me!!! Was it because I described her odor as a dying rat instead of saying very foul smelling. Or instead of saying vaginal area I said crotch? And when I said "period" I probably should of used in heat? I really don't think it was confusing, I just think you didn't care for my word choice I used to describe what I saw and smelled.
And yes, you did insult my intelligence!!! My overall intelligences, wheather I was being humorous or not. By asking my age, thinking I was very VERY young, and thinking i was a "certain thing with colorful hair" And what if I did have colorful hair??? Would that make me a bad person?? An unintelligent person??
And yes, you did offer advice, only after your critizising comments...And i really shouldn't make such a big deal out of this, but you must realize wheather you are being mean or not, it hurts people's feelings!!!

Don't be afraid to get your Yorkie spayed. Did you know that there are many benefits to getting her spayed like reducing her risk of cancer?

Spay and Neuter Health Benefits ~ Pawprints and Purrs, Inc.

If you had had her spayed before she ever had her first heat, her risk of cancer would have been zero. If you get her spayed before she has a second heat, her risk of cancer is still only 8%. If you wait until after she has her second heat, the risk rises to 25%.

Make sure and get pre op bloodwork done before her spay to alert your vet to any conditions that might make anesthesia risky. If her bloodwork is good, she'll be fine. Complications from pregnancy is much riskier than spaying.

Be very, very careful with her for the next few weeks. Males can smell a female in heat for miles away. They will be determined to get to her if there are any close.

I gave advice after I asked how old you were. There are quite a few trolls on here from time to time and I apologize that I thought you were one. I also apologize that I insulted your intelligence or hurt your feelings, I didn't mean to.

lol...trolls...anyway...enough brickering....forget and forgive...As for Coco, I bought her a lovely pair of underwear. (which she is not liking and is pouting) After her heat cycle is over, I will immediatly schedule a vet appt to get her fixed. I was unaware that the risk of cancer goes up after each heat cycle!!! That is extremely scary!! I also read on here that nutro is BAD and I'm slowly switching her to Natural Balance duck and potato... (I read a lot reviews on here that it's a good food choice) She was on nutro chicken and rice the past 9 mts....the crazies at petsmart told me it was good for her!!!! I was horified to find out dogs actually died from eating nutro!!! So hopefully this natural balance works!!!

Now I'm not being silly, but you described the odor of a dead rat........it made me laugh.....cause I've never heard that description before....I'm a breeder and the odor is musky to me.....you must have a real sensitive nose.

lol, actually i do!! my husband always picks on me for being sensitive for smells!!! I can smell anything and when i came home from work that morning and told him something smelled like a dying rat!! And i know what a dead rat smells like cause my ex roommate bred rats and when they died, that's what it smelled like!!!

I have an extremely sensitive nose too......My husband picks on me too...I can walk in from the garage and can tell that one of the furkids has peed way across the other side of the house.....But, I've never heard it described as a dead rat smell.....

lol one time i went into our living room where my husband was and i told him that i smelt poop!! and he said, i don't smell it..and i'm like, yesss i smell poop coco pooped the floor!! So we looked all over the floor couldn't find it, and my husband kept saying, i don't smell anything, then my nose found it on top of the couch!! (coco never ever did that before!!!) and since our couch is brown it blend right in!!! Good thing for my nose otherwise my hubby would of got poop in his hair!!!
as for her heat smell, i still think its smells like a dead rat!!! Makes me gag!!! lol

You are right in regards to Petsmarts. They are promoting Nutro to the point that they have a representative in the store on a weekly basis with coupons. That is their store brand top of the line pet food and they are pushing it hard. I was very upset to find out that in spite of the recall Petsmart had the nerve to have a person in store to promote the food!! :thumbdown I am now using Natural Balance from Superpetz and immediately after switching from the Nutro my Yorkie's frequent diarrhea problems stopped. I did not even try to phase in the Natural Balance mixed with the old food. I started on all Natural Balance and no problems with an upset stomach at all.

I find it quite amusing that an individual would insult another's intelligence through the use of a nonsensical sentence followed by a fragment that does not even come close to maintaining basic English grammar rules. :thumbup:

You guys need to seriously grow up. I was NOT insulting her intelligence, I asked how flippin' old she is, the way she was talking about the situation SOUNDED like a YOUNG person. I apologize I didn't know we were having English 101 on YorkieTalk. :rolleyes: Grow up.

Roxie came into heat before her scheduled spay and I had to wait a couple of months to get her spayed. I too am always afraid to spay mine and they usually end up going into heat before Iget up the nerve but they have always been just fine. We all know how scary it is to have it done but the benefits out weigh the very slight risk

I know this is off the subject, but Sophie had loose stools with Nutro too. We took her off immediately. However, the Duck and Potato made her scratch something awful. We are back to Royal Canin. Good luck with your baby, and she will be fine with the spay.

hmm that's weird the duck and potato made her itch...i heard it's suppose to help them with allergies..but i guess every yorkie is different and responds differently with each food type!!! I thought about getting her Royal too!!! So for she LOOOVES the duck and potato!!! And her bowel movements are firm and big!!! No more loose ones!!!! Now i can't wait until her heat phase is over!!! I think my husband is getting quite sick of changing her maxi pads!!! lol...I did talk to the vet clinic and they said they can fix them when they are in heat...but it would cost an extra 40 bucks..thought that was weird...but i told them , no i'll wait..I didn't question the receptionist how they could fix her while in heat, not sure if she knew..

Boy, this made for some interesting lunch time reading! I remember when my little Trixie went into her first heat, I about died too! I don't know if the stinking EX has had her fixed yet or not, but I doubt it. I miss her terribly and I wish I knew where she was. I did put on her little diaper too as much as she hated it but it was necessary. I'm glad I have a boy now! Relief!

I would try using Natural Balance organic my Rocky was the same way itchy and once i started using the organic he was not scratching anymore.

It's like 2-3 bucks more but it's worth it

it could be the beginning of her period. my girl was swollen and she humps when its time for her to be heat.
