Bald Spot Kori is 1 1/2 and in good health, very active, and about 3 lbs. She has a completely bald spot about the size of dime on her back. It's in the same location as when she got her original shots. The hair is gone all together. Originally it was a lump but that is gone. We thought since she was so small maybe they hit the rib, or the dose was too potient. There is no redness or swelling, and it doesn't seem to bother Korki at all. It's very clean but bald. Now my question. She is due for shots on Friday, could this acutally be caused from her first year of shots? And if so, should she get her second year shots in the same spot or another? I sure don't want a bald Yorkie if I can help it. Keep in mind I'm in a rural community and our pick of Vets is not the best. Most seem to care more about a $250.00 bill each visit. Going in with a little knowlege can save a bundle. Having said that, I do want to do what is the very best for Korki. I'd love to hear your suggestions. - You guys are the best! Thanks in advance. |
I've read about this happening in the injection spot, but I wonder if you could just use the same spot, I doubt if the hair will return anyway. Some people get the shots on the legs, so that the spot isn't as noticeable. |
I see you want to get info on vaccines before you go to the vet, and that is a good thing for the health and well being of your pet. This is the one important thing you can do that will have long and sometimes dire consequences if you choose to do too many. I provided a vaccine chart by Dr. Jean Dodds that gives people a direction to go in if this is to overwhelming to grasp right away. People who are concerned on giving our pets too many vaccines will only give the core vaccines, parvo, distemper and rabies. They are done at separate times separated by about a month so as to not stress their immune system. Never do a combo vaccine. Once the puppy series is done they don't do any boosters.....If you want more reading on this subject just google...."no more pet vaccines"...."overvaccination"....or "pet vaccine dangers" and sadly you'll find loads to read.....Good luck.... Update I took Korki to the Vet on Friday. He said that the reason she lost the hair on her first vacination spot was that the shot was too deep or shallow. Since we change vets after her first series of shots, he really didn't want to talk much about it. He wasn't even sure she had the antibodies since the shot wasn't given properly. He did give Korki two of her shots and we are scheduled in three weeks to get the final one. Korki seems to feel fine. No side effects....other than her original bald spot. |
