flea eradication question Hi, I found 3 little fleas on my 3 1/2 month old Emma. I kind of look for fleas every day because she loves to lie on her back an I rub her belly (I know they like to hide under the armpits). and haven't seen anything until today. She has no flea dirt on her and had not been scratching at all until this morning. I have 2 cats who do not go outside and have never had fleas (I need to check them today--but one is rescue cat that does not like to be held). He will wear a collar, so maybe I need to get a flea collar just in case. Emma had not been outside until last night and day before yesterday, when my partner took her out and he decided she "liked" it. This is what I've done so far: I bathed her in special puppy flea shampoo (quality and safe) and then combed her thoroughly with a flea comb. I've washed all of her blankets in hot water (including mine that she like to snuggle with me in). I'm wondering what to do with the toys that can't really be thrown in the wash and her actual bed (made of memory foam). My first impulse is to throw them in the dryer on hot----thinking the heat would kill anything, but then wondered if the heat would make any eggs/etc. worse. I have a central vac, so I'll vac everything too. My couch and chair that she spends time on are leather (can eggs hide there?) I really want to nip this in the bud, so any tips other than what I've already done this morning would be appreciated. Thank you, Sammer |
hey! sounds like your having the same issue as me! I found like 3-4 fleas on Fiona's neck last thursday, applied frontline plus, then washed all bedding, our bedding, vaccumed, and noticed on friday they were gone- then i waited 4 days to bathe her, did in dawn soap, then puppy shampoo, all was good. WEll, last night, i found 2 fleas on her head.....so i'm pretty upset...i dont think we have them in the house, and i think she is getting them from outside....called the vet this am, and they told me to use borax 7 and sprinkle it outside and inside...if your cats have fleas, they need to be on revolution, flea collars dont really work without some type of prevention...good luck, i'll let you know how things turn out with my puppy too, im so upset!~ |
frontline, etc. HI, I was feeling like I had things under control--was going to get med for cats just in case, and I checked Emma and the flea bath did NOTHING--I saw two again. I've never had fleas with the past 18 years of animals--basically because no one went outside (I guess they could have come in on shoes, etc?). Well, hang in there, I think we're both on top of the situation and it will resolve soon with the right products. : ) Sammer |
