Before Grain Dog food Haven't posted in ages. I "see" a lot of new faces. I was buying dog food the other day and I came across a new kind I have never seen before. I did a search but couldn't find any posts regarding it so I thought I would ask. Has anybody ever heard/used Before Grain dog food? Thoughts? Thanks, Jamie |
well i looked it up on their website and the ingredients seem really good. I like the idea of no grain myself, although i suppose it's not for everyone |
BG is made by Merrick, and it is a high quality food, I have used samples Merrick mails to me with my orders, but never ordered any since it is even higher priced than what I use Grammy's Pot Pie... Dogs are by nature, carnivores, and didn't eat grains in the wild. Grain-free dog food is great for Yorkies, since they have skin allergies, which corn can aggravate. When I got my first Yorkie (Baxter), I was feeding him the breeder and vet recommended Science Diet. He had skin allergies so bad he broke all the hair off on his back to the skin! All the vet would do is recommend a fish oil supplement, followed up by steroid shots if it didn't work. I read all about grain-free foods on Dogster, and switched to Solid Gold kibble and canned, the problems stopped immediately. I later upgraded to Merrick canned, after hearing so many rave reviews, and then converted to the kibble. All three of mine love it, and no more allergies!!!! |
I am feeding the dry to my girls and they go nuts over it. I think it is a good food. |
I use it too it is by Merrick. My yorkies seem to like it but the coat on my girl has improved so much since using this food. The sample bags are sold for $2.49 for 1.1 lbs. It gets a 5 star rating as a good food. |
Hi there, It is definitely a high quality food. I bought some for our fussy babies and neither one wanted anything to do with it. Well, to be honest little Ceasar did TRY it but still prefers the Rollover log instead. I may pick up a can to try. I thought the kibble smelled amazing and was SURE my darlings would be begging me to let them have some. :( I wanted to try some myself it smelled so good and the ingredient list is AWESOME !!!!!!!!! |
I now feed NV raw but used this food a lot in the past... mine liked it as much as anything and I liked the ingredients.... Look at the ingredients on the cans if I am not mistaken it will say chicken and water for processing or salmon, etc what ever flavor it is. It looks like canned tuna with all meat and some water on top but no goopy gravy looking stuff. It was the least gross canned food I ever used with the merick taking up second place depending on the variety it just looked like veg soup. If mine were to have problems with the raw (don't think it's gonna happen) I would prob go back to the BG. |
I would LOOOOVE to feed this to my dogs if i can find it here somewhere. |
I did notice it was by Merrick after I posted. I picked up the small bag when I went in to Pet Value to get my regular dog food. I was excited to give it a try. As it turns out, I realized I was out of "cookies" (after potty treat) so I told them it was candy and they seem to like it. I am going to start mixing it with their regular food. We'll see. I was excited that it was only 2.49, I didn't even check to see how much a bigger bag was. Thanks for the opinions and thoughts :D |
Where I was buying it the smallest bag (not sample) was around $15.00 but I think it is a little more than the 4-6lb small back from other brands...maybe 8lbs. |
The size up bag is 6.6 lbs then 11 lbs. |
