Vaccination - Bordetella recommended? Okay so I took Mahina in to the vet to get her second round of shots. The shot records I got from the breeder said she was given DA2PP. This time she was given only DAP. She is going to a different vet, but is this normal? Did she get only what she needed? I know she shouldn't have lepto, corona, lyme... and thats all I can think of right now. I will be taking her to the groomers and possibly a puppy training class, so should I get the Bordetella vaccine? Is there any website I could look at to see if Bordetella is something I should worry about in my area, along with lepto, corona, lyme? I don't want to give her vaccines that are not necessary. She's going back on the 31st for her third set, is there anything different they do on the third set or is it just the same boosters? Also if I decide to use Inceptor should I go ahead and use advantage or frontline with it. Or should I just use Revolution although I heard it doesn't protect against some stuff that Inceptor does. Thank you :) :animal-pa I also need to post new pictures of her she's gained a few ounces but she's getting big. |
I'm no expert, but I think you're right to question the need for bordatella. I've heard recently that the side effects could be more harmful than kennel cough itself. Kennel cough is really nothing more than a bad cold, and they recover from it pretty quickly. And a bordatella shot is no guarantee that they won't get kennel cough anyway. I recently got mine a bordatella shot because it was required for an obedience class, but if I had my druthers I think I'd pass. |

Do you know if any vaccinations can cause her to throw up and have soft stools a day or two after? Because she threw up in the car, but I doubt it's car sickness because I've had her in the car multiple times and she's never had a soft stool since I've brought her home. The vaccinations are the only thing that has been different  |
yes vaccines can make her feel off for a few days.. esp if it was a combo... next time insist that they be given sep. and a few days apart. and never give rabies when they get a booster.. it's just too much for their systems to handle at once. I don't give bordetella. Layla had the shot last year- went and got groomed ... and eneded up with kennel cough. I have read that the kennel cough vaccine is similar to the flu shot- you can still GET the flu... so to me it's not worth it... i groom her myself, we don't go to dog parks and she goes to an in-home sitter. |

Well then I'll skip on the bordetella and talk to my vet about giving the shots separately. Thank you for the info :) |

Depending on what you are going to do with your dog. If you take classes or board them or have them groomed its a requirement they have the Bordetella. But I also make sure that when my dogs get shots they only give one at a time. Especially for the smaller ones its so much for there systems. |
