Wasabi Peas? Does anyone know if wasabi is bad for dogs? My Bailey just LOVES LOVES LOVES wasabi peas. I only give her maybe 5 peas a week but i'm nervous that they could somehow not be good for her. But she absolutely loves them. Any help would be great. Thanks! |
Most wasabi that is served is not "real wasabi." Real wasabi is not found easily, so usually what we're eating is actually very spicy horseradish with other things added. Here's a link that explains what I'm trying to say: What is Wasabi? From what I have read, horseradish is not recommended for dogs nor are spicy foods, so I don't know if wasabi peas are safe. |
Maybe it's the crunch of the peas she likes, not the Wasabi part? Some of the snack mixes I've purchased (for ME, thankyouverymuch!) have the peas in them ... they're crunchy, but don't have the "kick" of the Wasabi. BTW, *I* like Wasabi Peas, too ;) |

As a side note...I've always wanted to name a dog, Wasabi. I just love the sound of the word. I campaigned for it for both Boo and Yogi, but my husband apparently has problems with naming a dog after a Japanese condiment. :p |
Thanks for all your help! I'm definitely going to try the plain peas. She really is obsessed with the wasabi peas tho...if i even go near the cabinet they're in she comes running and if she even sees the canister she cries and whines which she's never done before. I too love me some wasabi peas!! They're soo addictive. And when we got Bailey i wanted to name her peppercorn for whatever reason...my bf doesn't think animals should be named after food so that was that. It is an adorable name for a puppy tho! =) |
I would think it would burn her little tummy-but if she seems to like them it's probably ok for the reasons stated above. Definitely try regular peas- for something different, my two love them frozen, or right out of the sugar snap pea pods too :) |

Jeebus!! I am rolling on the floor here!! If I get another dog I will try name her Bunny, how's that??? LOL!!! Or Kitty?? |
Tempura, Kani, Sake.. hm getting hungry here. I'm thinking about getting a bunny, if I do I want to name it Mr/Miss SnuffleBun. or Mr/Miss Snorglepuss. Any thoughts?? :D |
Well, according to About Doggies wasabi and wasabi peas would both be very bad for dogs to eat. The problem seems to be that it's too spicy. ASPCA confirms the fact that spicy food is not for dogs. |

On the subject of the wasabi peas or wasabi. Both are not good for dogs. I would stop feeding them |
and their eyes aren't running from the heat? I know mine often do, now I want wasabi peas. Peas are full of starch and the coating is too, I wouldn't give either peas or wasabi peas to my dogs Are Wasabi Peas Good for You? | Healthy Eating | SF Gate |
