advantages of neutering My little guy is about 7 months old. We were thinking about neutering him, but was wondering what the advantages were of it. he marks his territory alot around the house and thought this might put a stop to that. thanks |
All dogs are different. I can tell you that we neutered Bobby a month ago and he has stopped all marking. I think that neutering is a good choice regardless if you are not going to breed. And now is better than later. I think we should have neutered Bobby alot sooner. He is 16 months. Prior to his surgery I could tell he was acting differently, he would get really anxious around other dogs and try to mount them. And he would try and get out of the house, I think they call it roaming. Neutering has not changed his personality but he is alot calmer around other animals, doesnt mark anymore (I am not sure if he will still mark when we are at another home with animals) and he doesnt try to get out anymore. I say go for it :) |
My vet has always told me that if i dont plan on breeding, then neutering was a good option cause alot of male dogs have prostate problems when they get older and neutering can prevent some of them. I decided against it when we had our siberian husky....needless to say he had lots of prostate problems when he got older :( |
I had both my males neutered at 6 months of age. They had both started marking in the house around this time, and thankfully they both stopped after they were neutered. So that would be a major advantage. They were also easier to train after neutering. My advice would be to go for it, unless you planned on breeding. |
would u do it to ur male companion too... i say train and control ur bby...:D i had a 16 year old yorkie in tact without any problems... |
I believe in spaying or neutering your pets if you don't plan on breeding them. One, because it makes them less tempted to roam and possibly get lost or hurt and two, because it makes it less likely that he will mate and create unplanned puppies. There are so many puppies in this world that were accidents and so many of them don't have homes or good homes... I neutered Deegan when he was 6 months old, and he's happy & healthy. Doesn't mark his territory and stays on our property and doesn't wander off. |
