Help with Innova/Innova Evo There is a thread going on here about Royal Canin-which is what I feed my dogs right now. I was going to wait to switch because I switched them from Eukanuba about 2-3 months ago. I thought RC was good, but it sounds like it's awful fatty and too much protein. So, it sounds like switching now is a good idea. When I switched them before, I was debating over RC or Innova. For some reason I choose the RC. So, does anyone know of any problems with Innova or Innova Evo? What is the difference between the two? (If I remember right the Evo has a little more fat in it-right?). Any information you can give me to aid in my decision would be great. |
Also, is there an Innova Puppy? (I have a 5 month old and a 1 1/2 year old-he'll be 2 next month). |
Innova When I went to purchase Jack and Mandy's food at the Natural food store I looked at most of the what was in innova and evo. I found that the California Natural seemed like the best bet. For one thing they had a lamb and rice formula (sensitive stomach), price and it was on the list of top 50 best dog foods. I had Jack on RC and proplan. He has had problem with diarrhea. I aslo want to mention they love it. I also decided it was time to switch my cats food and got chicken soup for the pet lovers soul. For what it's worth, Tatum eats the Innova. There is a puppy food and also adult small bites. She's only been eating this for about two months but she really loves it. The store I got it gave me a money-back guarantee - even if she went through almost the whole bag and then decided she didn't like it. I thought that was really good of them to offer so we are trying it. So far, so good! |
I feed TJ and Roxy Innova for Puppies. I might have to switch b/c TJ has a sensitive tummy! I am not sure yet if it is the Innova or other treats that give him 'soft poops'. But if I have to switch I will probably go with California Natural Lam/Rice Sensitive Stomaches. |

I had Stormy & Kodah on RC, but I did notice that they tended to itch more than I thought was normal for a dog. I tried a few different shampoos thinking that might be the problem, but now that they have been on Innova Evo for several months - no more itching. The only reason I switched is because I had read on here that several people had encountered the same problem with their puppies itching & switching their food from RC helped. My daughter's chihuahua has always been on RC & had never had any problems with itching! |
I feed Innova puppy but I will be switching to Innova or California Natural (both made by same company) when Maximus turns 8-9 months or he finishes his huge bag of food...lol!!! He likes the Innova although it was hard for him to switch from the little bites that RC come in ....he seemed to like that size sooo much better but he was itching liek crazy and since the Innova he is 100X better!!! |
Bruce is transitioning to Innova small bites right now. I can say this he prefers the innova to the RC 100% and will pick around the RC (will stop blending soon), and the small bites are still pretty little. I think the regular size innova or the evo would be too big for him to eat. Also I know Evo is higher in fat than the regular innova formula. |
I fed Innova Small Bites to my little rescue girl to put weight on her. If you look, it contains over 500 calories per cup! Most other dog foods are in the 350 calorie range, and puppy food is under 400 calories. Innova Evo also contains over 500 calories per cup and in addition is something like 47% protein. That is a high concentration for a toy dog. Our little dogs daily calorie need is just over 300 calories (assuming about a 4 pound dog), which means it doesn't take much food to give them what they require. I don't know about you, but 1/3 cup of Innova a day would make my dogs leave home! All 3 of mine are now fed Solid Gold products, Hund n Flocken in the morning, and Just a Wee Bit at night. |
I am now even more confused The post above talks about Innova being 47% (40-something) protein. Why would I want to switch from RC to Innova and have a higher % of protein? |

I just bought some Innova puppy food for Sadie and I bought some California Natural (lamb and rice) for Maddie (my lab). My lab has terrible allergies and I was hoping putting her on California Natural would help with her allergies and her scratching. Sadie has been itching a lot and so I am going to try to switch her over to Innova and see if it helps with the itching. I gave her a piece of Innova and she seemed to like it. I mixed a few pieces of it in with her old food (which is ProPlan puppy). She ate it all up. I have been cutting her food in half with a pill cutter to get it more bite size for her. I cut the Innova too. I really wanted to get California Natural for Sadie too, but they didn't have any puppy food. Maddie has been on ProPlan lamb and rice, but now I am going to slowly switch her over to California Natural and see if it helps the itching. Does anyone know why chicken is used most for puppy food? I wanted to get Sadie on lamb and rice because Maddie has been allergic to chicken and that is why she is on lamb and rice. Thanks for any info. |

WOW! Thanks for the sites! I learned so much on that first site! WOW! Royal Canin only has Chicken meal listed before the 1st source of fat (Chicken meal, rice, brown rice, chicken fat). Which means that there isn't a whole lot of animal proteins in the food. I think the Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul looks like it is one of the best. It has SEVERAL different animal proteins listed (before the first source of fat)...Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, turkey meal, whole grain brown rice, whole grain white rice, oatmeal, potatoes, cracked pearled barley, millet, chicken fat. I've learned what doesn't make RC the best food is NOT the amount of protein or fat (it's 28% protein and 18% fat-recommended for the Yorkie is 28% protein and 8% fat-so I've read). It's the ingredients. There isn't too much protein in the food, it's the ingredients in the food. Well, I've learned a lot. Thanks for all of the information! |
