To chip or not to chip I understand there are plenty of benefits to chipping, but I've heard of some negative also. Things like the chip may be linked to tumors and maybe cancer. I also heard of the chip moving. If thats the case, it would be no benefit any way. Has anyone heard any of this? Is any of this accurate? Is it rare if it is? I don't know what to do. Please help!!! |
I've always chipped... Hi, I used to show Chinese Shar-Pei and had all mine chipped. I never had a problem. This is going back 12 years or so. My vet always recommends chipping even for pets. It saves you alot of heartache if they go missing. I had my 9 month old Yorkie done when he was 6 months old. I think all the things you mentioned could possibly happen, But tha rewards out weigh the Risks... I think it's better to be safe than sorry... I hope this helps you make your decision!! Bailey is chipped, and Bella will be tomorrow. ;) They chip can move but my vet scans the entire body to check. So if it moves it will still be detected. I've never heard any bad info on chipping. |
well you have to weigh the pros and cons. Birth control pills... higher risk of some sort of cancer.. but for the most part the pros outweight the "possible" cons... same with the chip... god forbid you loose her and see her with someone... how could you prove she is yours??? Layla has been chipped and it makes me feel better knowing that she is. |
The risk of there being a problem with the chip (like it causing cancer) is very small (at least that is what is thought so far). Ellie would be chipped but I have an ethical/moral/religious (whatever you want to call it) issue with it, so she is not and will never be. She has built-in identification...no front teeth.;) |
Ace is chipped and Lizzie will be next week. I just can't imagine the thought of losing them and not knowing I did everything in my power to help them come back to me. I cring at the thought of it. I researched it and just thought it was best for us. But it is a personal decision to be made. Weigh your pros and cons (risks) and what you are willing to go with. We decided it was for us and went for it. No problems here so far ;)! |

I think the health risks are so small. But, the potential of identifying your baby so large - so we definitely believe our babies need to be chipped. :) |
Chips don't do any good in our area of NC. I was horrified to learn last week that at the local Kill Shelter they don't check the animals that come in there for chips. If they do it is when they euthanize them, only for record keeping purposes. They also told me that their equipment is so out of date most of the time it can't even read the chips. I find this state of affairs absolutely archaic and gives lost dogs no chance at all. |
