Yorkie stopped eating but before I go to the vet... So here is the problem, I switched Lexi's food on the weekend. Stupid me, I didn't switch it gradually. She gobbled it down but the next day started to feel sick. I found 3 piles of vomit I'm assuming to be hers. One with food, and the others were small piles of bile. Over the last couple of days she stopped eating but resumed drinking water. She hasn't been her self, she is somewhat lathargic, and has had diahrea. Yesterday my boyfriend spotted blood in the stool, very small amount. Stool is a lighter color. Now I was planning on taking her to the vet first thing this morning, but she seems to be feeling better, she ate some wet food and seems little more energetic. Should I still go to the vet? Or maybe monitor her for another day? Thanks everyone! **edited** I also wanted to add that she wouldn't eat anything before, not even her favourite treats... |

Thanks for your fast response. I feel so stupid for no changing over her food slowly, I've always had big dogs - which it doesn't effect so much. I feel so bad for my girl :( |

I would still take her to the vet if the problem has not cleared up...or maybe put her back on her old food and give her one or two days MAX to get back to normal. It does sound like this is the result of swapping foods. Unfortunately, I have had this problem with a few of mine on more than one occasion. Many times the digestive upset and inflamation can cause bacterial infections (which they can determine from a stool sample), for which she may need antibiotics--if that is the case you definately don't want to wait too long to have it checked out. Be sure to make sure she is not getting dehydrated. Hope she is feeling better soon. |
Thanks again for all the replies! I think I'm going to wait it out a little longer, and see how she is doing tonight. I'll put her back on her old food and try pro biotic yogurt. |

I think Marci gave the exact advice I would have given, being thats what my vet said word for word. Good luck! Marci is a great help with food issues she has done her homework and is very knowledgable about it. she has been a great help to many on here and we love her! |
I'm glad I decided to hold off on taking Lexi to the vet, she seems to be gradually getting better and eating more. I've gone back to her old food and I've been mixing it with the wet. She gobbled down all of it this morning. :) She has picked up a little as well, last night she even was playing with Lucy. Thanks again for the advice. Now I've read in a couple places on the internet that garlic is good to help ease the stomach and kill bacteria, was thinking of sprinkling it on her food. Thoughts? |
