Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish Allergy Formula? REVIEWS PLEASE! Well here I am with another food question :p As some of you may or may not know, I switched Tatum over to Natural Balance Potato & Duck Small Bites (Allergy Formula) almost exactly a month ago. For the past few days she seems to have totally lost interest in this food - which I might add is SO NOT like Tatum, lol. She is normally my little piglet and will usually eat any and everything you give her. However, it seems that now this food just isn't cutting it for her anymore :( I hate it too, because she has been doing really well on it so far and doesn't seem to itching NEAR as much as she used to. Tatum has VERY bad allergies and I just need a food that she will eat, and one that is going to help her. So ok, here is my question. The other day I went into the place where I buy my babies food and I got a sample of the Natural Balance Potato and Fish Allergy Formula food and gave it to Tatum today for the first time and she seemed to absolutely LOVE it. Now, I don't know if it is just because this is a new food and it's something a little different that she is liking for "the moment" (it's so weird even saying that, cause she normally IS NOT my picky one, that would be Stedman, lol :p) - BUT, she seems to be more interested in this Sweet Potato and Fish one even more than she was with the NB Potato and Duck initially. So basically I am just wondering if anyone here feeds this (NB Sweet Potato and Fish) to their babies with allergies and if so, what are your results with it? How long have your baby(s) been on it and do they LIKE the food? Are they itching any less? Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to explain everything :p And thanks in advance to help help that you can offer! :D |
Wow I made alot of typos  Sorry about that guys...don't know whats wrong with me tonight lol! |
Bumping this up so maybe you can get some help! I know how it is with allergies and losing interest in food & it sucks!!! :( |

And P.S., you're right...it does suck :( LOL. |
Ellie's never tried it, so I have no idea but I'd go with it since she did so well with the other one. It really depends on how much she has eaten of those ingredients before and if she developed an allergy to any of them. With sweet potato and fish, that isn't too likely. One question though, does the company they get their fish from use ethoxyquin to preserve it? because I wouldn't use it then... |
My friend has a black lab/husky mix and she feeds this to her.. She continues to buy it, so she must think it's working. I'll ask her for more details on what she thinks and let ya know. |

I have not read any responses on this yet but i will .. just wanted to let you know quickly that i switched to the same brand for the same reasons as you did. I do switch back and forth with the different taste for them. Ahia is the reason I switched to the alergy formula. It did help with her itching. |
I dont' know how long we have been using it ..... probably a year maybe longer. sorry i can't give you exacts here. |
Love this dog food!!! My two Yorkies have been on this formula for about two years now and I saw a difference in their skin and the itching/scratching within about two to three weeks. They don't scratch at all now. This is all I feed them now and they love it!!!! I would highly recommend it! My babies have had no digestive issues on this formula either. Andrea:aimeeyork |
Lucy and Rebel were switched to this about 3 months ago. They love it and Lucy hasn't had the skin problems she's had in the past. |
Pasquale was on the Ultra Natural Balance Chicken formula (Small Bites) at first..he absolutely LOVED it. However, he was starting to itch really bad....ALOT! So I just went and bought him the Duck and Potato Allergy Formula Small Bites today. He's not too thrilled with it. The fish and potato may be my next step. But i'm gonna give this one at least a few days. I'm exhausted cause it took me FOREVER to find a food he would actually eat and now that i found it....he started to itch.(sigh) Oh well...wish me luck. I say if your dog likes the fish and potato...stick with it! |
We have been using the Sweet Potatoe and Fish for over a year and have seen alot less allergy issues (itching). I add a little boiled chicken - and I mean very little - to keep mine interested in eating. So far, the chicken has not made things worse, but you would want to be careful because alot of yorkies are sensative to chicken. (And mine were sensative to chicken when eating a dry food that was made from chicken...but do ok on the very small amounts of boiled chicken.) |
Hi, I haven't posted in FOREVER and just caught this thread. After I did all my food research I finally decided on Natural Balance. I felt even better about this decision when I went to the pet store and luckily the person I spoke with had yorkies as well and gave me great feedback on NB. I switch up Bella's food every few months, and by switching I mean the flavors they offer. This was on both the sales rep and my vets' recommendation to switch the flavorings so she doesn't develop an allergy to it. Oh and Bella has had no extreme itching or scratching. Hope this helps, |
