Home-made diet Does anyone know about feeding your Yorkie:aimeeyork a home-made diet, such as rice and chicken? I have a very finicky puppy and had read something about feeding them rice and a protein source along with a supplement. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or advice about this. :aimeeyork |
I tried and all I got is alot of stinky poop. I feed Life Abundance. It is a great premium food that I can feel good about feeding. I can send you a sample if you pm me. |
I home cook for Layla and have for about a year and a half. It works so great for us! You can boil chicken or extra lean ground beef.. or bake some fish.... and you can put veggies in a food processor and give white rice or better yet, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, potato, sweet potato.... the possibilities are endless as long as the meat has a VERY low fat content. You can give fruit (no grapes or skin on the fruit), yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs.... but you HAVE to supplement. YOu can buy supplements that are made for home cooking- usually at a speciality pet boutique. I also highly recommend getting a blood panel done at the vet's office twice a year to make sure your pup is getting everything he/she needs nutritionally if you are looking for a book- try Dr. Pitcairn's guide to healthy cats and dogs (or something like that :p) It's a great starter book.. you don't have to agree with it all ( i don't ) but it tells you great foods you can give and gives you great receipes. |
You gave me some hope...Thanks!!! What kind of veggies are you giving Layla and do you buy them fresh or frozen. Right now I am using Nutrical to supplement Bailey's diet. I just want her to get a complete diet that she likes to eat. |

I would love to get the supplement that you make. Thanks again for the information. This is my first Yorkie, so I'm learning as I go. |
Tonight a made Bailey some lean ground beef with some veggies and rice and put it in the blender. She loved it. It's good to see her eating without a problem. I think this will be the way to go. Bailey has a vet appt. on Wednesday so we'll further discuss this option then. |

ALSO it is VERY important to get a full blood panel done at your vet twice a year.. just to make sure she isn't lacking any important nutrients i'm going to pm you now with the receipe :) |
