had to switch to homemade food asap! have ?'s please help anyone.. my dear mya passed 9-22-08 due to poision food natures choice. I had to switch my other babies asap to rice/boiled chic. will they get sick from the rapid diet change??? |
oh my goodness. I am so sorry for your loss. Rice and boiled chicken will be ok for a short time, however I suggest that you research homecooking for dogs here on YT in the Health/Diet section. They need more than just chicken and rice-you absolutely need to supplement with vitamins and minerals, and you may want to add fruits/vegetables/dairy to their diet along with substituting the type of meat and carb. I have been homecooking for over a year, and I haven't had any problems switching them between types of homecooked food. If you notice your furbabies have loose poo when you switch them off the commercial food onto homecooked, it's probably the toxins from the commercial food leaving their system. Of course, don't let diarrhea take its course untreated for more than a bout or two without discussing with your vet. Make sure they're eating regularly, have access to fresh cool water at all times, and watch them closely for signs of dehydration/hypoglycemia until they are completely switched over to the new food and healthy. |
aww I'm sorry for your loss.... I just switched my Daizy to home cooked food...and she's doing just fine. There are quite a few recipes in the Health and Diet section on the forum....you might find helpful. :animal-pa |

A few of us have advised with Nutritionist's for a home made recipe and the correct and balanced supplements. The cost for one recipe is approx. $100 to $160 (depending on which nutritionist you choose) - I can recommend one from Cornell Univ. ($140) - Well worth it IMO as there is no research or guessing needed. Let me know ;) |
