Eukanuba dog food? I've had my baby on Eukanuba since I got her. She started out eating the can food for puppies but now I add the Eukanuba small breed dry food to it. She seems to like it but I was just curious if anyone knows if thats healthy for her? Anyone else out there feed their babies Eukanuba brand? |
This is their ingredients list from Dog Food Reviews - Eukanuba Puppy Small Breed Formula - Powered by ReviewPost Quote:
All the ingredients in bold are ingredients I would not feed my dogs. There may be more in the list that is not very good for dogs, but I am not that knowledgeable yet :D By products - rejected ingredients for humans. may include beaks, feet, necks, etc etc. Basically, parts of animal that are NOT MEAT. Corn - filler, difficult to digest for dogs, may cause allergies in some dogs Fish meal - what fish?? Ground whole grain - what grain?? Citric acid - the presence of this chemical means you CANNOT water this kibble or it will cause bloat problems. Brewers rice - processed rice missing many nutrients, in other words, cheap filler Beet pulp - thought to cause allergies in some dogs Egg product - what is included in this product, and what's not? You can go here to read for yourself: The Dog Food Project - Ingredients to avoid It is a great site to start food research for your dogs. :) |

It's certainly not the 'best' food available, as opinions go, but it's not the worst either. The question is: Is it what is best for YOUR dog. What is best for one may not be best for the next. You may find that Eukanuba is what works best for yours, you may find that something else is a better match. If you want to try to find something that offers her more nutritional value, do your research and then to trial feedings with her and observe the results. (Always remembering to switch her gradually to allow her time to adjust. Swapping over to something different cold turkey can cause serious digestive upset which can lead to bacterial infections.) dogfoodanalysis.com is a good place to start your research as it has lots of information regarding the ingredients, but it's important to realize that the information and ratings on the site are based solely on the opinions of the site editors, not long term, professional research. So your research for a new food shouldn't stop and end there. Another site you may want to try is: Dog Food Review Ratings It will link you to several sites with information about commerical foods, home cooking, raw feeding, and supplements. You may also want to try the sticky at the top of this section. It lists some of the more recommended (at least by YT members) brands and some of the companies will send you samples and coupons if you contact them and request them. Good luck! |

OP- do your research. The links given are great.. but look on the back at any label and just see what is in the food you are feeding. You are looking for WHOLE ingredients.. no bi-products... no fillers listed as #1 or #1 (corn, wheat) Good luck. Food is daunting and hard to find a good one.. i'm constantly changing my opinion on what a good kibble is. Currently i advocate for Natural Balance. |

No one can feasibly assume that they know what is best for anyone's dogs other than their own. (Unless you are a nutritionist or well educated vet.) That determination has to be made by the individual owners based on their research, observations and the results achieved. |
My Diva used to eat it but she got allergies from it. She is currently on Wellness which is all Natural REALLY GOOD! |

Was anyone heard the term Pukanuba used in refering to Eukanuba. Oh and can I say Iams and therefore Eukanuba just got busted again for inhuman treatment of the dogs they using in feed testing trials... and did I say again. JL |

in china eukanuba anypeople talk very good, i think is false, i believe you |
:thumbup:Well thanks everyone...I'm new at this so I wasn't sure, she's only been on it for about 4 weeks so I hope it hasn't caused any harm so far. Her vet says she's healthy but I will slowly switch her food, I'm thinking either Wellness or Natural Balance. :animal-pa |
It is great to research & learn about ingredients. Sometimes I get a headache from searching for long periods of time, but my girls are worth it :) lol Over many years, in the past, I have used Eukanuba without realizing how the main company operated & how low the quality of ingredients was, as well as Science Diet & Purina brands. Once you start researching, you'll know which foods are really crap!! I have experienced recently that some brands often change the mill where they make their food & by doing this, their ingredients/quality changes. I was using Timber Wolf & this has happened with them. Some places here in Vegas have stopped carrying their food because T.W. is not up front with what is happening. I have researched & looked, and am in process of changing the girls food. I doubt I will ever stop researching.......:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
the thing that confuses me when choosing A quality food is that I have heard that it is not good to pick A prem. food that is on the 5-6 rating scale. that is too high in protein which in turn can lead to problems later down in the road. NOW, is that true? I did try Nature's Abundance and My Suzi would not touch that one. Then I gave her By nature , and it has none of none of the fillers... or any bad stuff. It is rated as A 4 and some of their canned foods are at A 6. I gave my Suzi The canned and she ended up having gas badly. NOW, if i am niot correct on the super prem. foods , then please help clarify it, thank you |
