Treats: What do you give your Yorkie Moments ago even tho it was late, we played ball. I gave him his food as a treat, which is "Royal Canine", since he really didn't eat a lot today. Otherwise, I give him all sorts of different treats. I have Wellness Bites, Old Mother Hubbard & Natural Choice that I give to him when we play ball. So, do any of ya all give them their food as treats~? |
I actually give them their kibble sometimes :D Because of lack of good dog treats in my country, nowadays I feed carrot, some pear, apples, Kong ziggies, and yogurt. I put their kibble in Kong, put some yogurt in, and freeze it. Mocha loves it! |
i almost lost my dexter to pancreatitis due to treats so i only give organic baked chicken pieces or baby organic carrots small pieces -- No high fatty foods for my 3. It cost us 10k to save him and he had to have a plasma transfusion so it was pretty traumatic for us and pancreatitis runs in this breed so please be very careful not to over treat as they are small dogs and do not need alot of treats |
Omg! Poor baby:( What did you feed him before, if you don't mind me asking? |

Sorry to hear about the health of your Yorkies. I didn't realize it could cost that much~! I think mine is pretty healthy, but later in his life I know like us human he may have health issues. I sometimes don't give him any to much of treats, and other times I do. But he has tons of energy and runs in the yard chasing mostly rabbits, and then the birds or even squirrels. He zips around the house here too before he goes to bed. So I presume he's working off his food, he's okay. Right~? Sometimes I reward him when he eats his food with a beggin strip or a snauages (sp) |

This is also why I only feed "natural" treats, so to speak. I researched their food so extensively, I don't think I can handle another research for treats. I don't want to worry about what might or might not be in their treats. |
So sad to read about your furbaby being so sick. All I give my 2 as treats is cheerios, small carrots, merricks flossies which are tendons. They seem to be so relaxed when you give them something to chew for a while. I cut one in half so that each gets just a half, at the most 2 per week. |
I give my dogs baby carrots they love em and the vet said they were great for them. |
I give my babies (6 months and up) chicken chips that they sell at PS. It's 100% dried chicken and they love it. Perfect size also. For the the little babies under 3-6 months, I give them Nature's Recipe.... they are soft and chewy and because they are so small and I don't have to worry about filling up their tiny, sweet bellies. For the teeny babies 6 weeks to 3 months I break the Nature's Recipe in half and only give them a treat twice a day or so. They definitely have more ingredients so I don't give them as many as I do the older furbabies. But I like to give them some sort of treat that is tiny and tasty for potty training. And it works because the newest members of our family Harley and Sophie, when they are fixing to go potty on the paper, they look up at us to make sure we are watching that they are using the paper so they'll get a treat. It only took us one week to potty train each one of our four puppies with the treats. If anyone knows of another tiny treat to give the younger ones, feel free to share. I'd like to give them something as tiny as these but more nutritious like the chicken chips. I like the cheerios idea though. I've stayed away from the fruits and vegetables on the 14 week olds because they EACH are using the bathroom (#2) five times a day. Not sure if that's normal or not. Any thoughts if it is? My two older ones just went #2 twice a day. |
I really don't give them any store bought treats anymore. I give them bites of fruit instead...blueberries, apples, bananas, melon. |
The only treats I buy are from a natural health pet food store, which contain all natural ingredients. I also give them bits of fruit and baby carrots. Cheerios are a good treat, and I also sometimes give them the toddler treats which have bits of fruit. |
My Pixie loves the Natures menu real meat treats so I use those alot..she also loves cheese, yoghurt, fruit and vegetables.:) |
My 3 get watermelon, canteloupe, dried cranberries and other fruits too...and yogurt too...!:) |
