Blend or Not to Blend Well since tippy has bad teeth. I decided to blend her food up and when i give it too her I just add water. Even though its a little messy it works. My question is that should I go back to the normal way she is supposed to eat (she just swallows it all whole it is ROYAL CANIN) or keep blending it for her? Which do you think is a better method? THANKS :animal-pa |
Personally, I don't see what exactly you are changing about the food by blending it. Another words, if the food is causing the bad breath, then changing the food would be the only solution. Blending or watering the food down does not do anything to it other than change the consistency. |
i think you misunderstood =] the food that she eats doesn't affect her breath-she has gingivitis and has her teeth cleaned twice, but anways...the reason I started to blend her food was because she had a hard time eating the dry food, by blending it I thought it would help her. So what do you think-should I keep blending it for her or just let her keep swallowing it??? |
Okay, that makes more sense! Sorry if I misunderstood. I would try and introduce larger pieces of food in with the blended mix. That way you are getting her used to chewing. I don't think she'll have a problem eating small kibble. My puppies could handle the kibble (unblended) from when they were 6 weeks old. Try to slowly make the mix thicker and thicker until she'll eat the kibble by itself. |
Tippy isn't a puppy---I think that is another misunderstanding lol;) she is 3 years old and has gingivitis {I brush her teeth daily}. She used to eat the dry food hole but now she just gobbles and swallows it down without using her teeth at all. Thats the reason I started to blend it for her. And so I'm wondering if I should just let her keep swallowing it or should I keep blending it:confused: |
Am no expert but if that's what work for her then thats what you should contuine to do, but I will watch out with Royal Cain, it calls a lot of dogs to have allergies, dry skin. I had to take my baby off of it. |
It might hurt to chew it a so I would add a few unblended pieces to the blended to encourage her to chew. It is actually better if they do chew their food. |
is it still possible for tippy to get an allergy even though shes been eating the food since she was a puppy??? |
If she truly refuses to chew any kibble, I'd really be concerned giving her any kibble at all due to the choking hazzards. Instead, I'd feed her a premium canned food. For her teeth, I'd provide Bully Sticks and Raw Bones for teeth cleaning/chewing - and you could brush teeth as well. |
