Today at the vet... Trinkett went to the vet at 7 weeks and weighed 1.5 pounds. She's now 10 weeks old and at the vet today she weighed 2 lbs. even. Is that a normal weight gain over 3 weeks for a puppy that young? The vet sounded like it was great, so I'm not worried just curious to see what other Yorkie owners say. They also said everything looks normal & she is a happy, healthy little girl! :) |
Both Ruby and Reno came to me at ages older than your Trinkett. So, I'm not certain of their weight gains at that age. If your vet is happy with her weight, I wouldn't worry. |
I'm not an expert at all!!!! but... I think it's individual to any dog, but ANY weight gain is good when their puppies. Just because a puppy's parents are one size and you expect her to be a certain size doesn't mean that's what her actual size will be. It's one of their little surprises for us, since it seems like they're the only ones that know how big they'll get. :D As a frame of reference when Zoë went to the vet at 8 weeks old she'd weighed 2 pounds even (with her breeder). When I first took Zoë to the vet at 11.5 weeks old, she weighed 2.5 pounds. Well at 16 weeks old she's barely over 3 pounds. The vet had originally "planned" or guesstimated that she'd gain a pound in a month. She gained 1/2 a pound in a month, which was still enough to make the vet happy. |
Puppies can put on weight fast... which is very good and healthy. I would not be concerned about her gaining weight at this age, I would, if she were not. My Suzi was 3.5 lbs at 10 weeks... :aimeeyork She is now 7 months old, and is 7.5 lbs. |
Thanks everyone! |
