Spic and Span? After discovering that my hardwood floor cleaner was toxic to my little one, I've started going through everything I clean with. I'm a little questionable on Spic and Span and thought someone here might know. I read where it was toxic to cats because it has phenols and they breathe them in the air. Any ideas for dogs? What do you all use to clean your tile/ hardwood floors? Lately, Ive switched to just water to be on the safe side...but as you probably know - just water doesn't clean too well. Thanks! |
I use Murpheys Oil Soap and Mr clean |
I have used SPic and Span at times but make sure I do a final rinse - just to make sure. I now use Clorox Green Works and again - I do a final rinse. Stay away from Swiffer....it contains the ingredient in Antifreeze! Just a small amount of that causes kidney failure. |
Fourteen years ago my vet told me to never clean my floors with anything I wouldn't like to soak my feet in for an hour. That's what our little ones feel like having to absorb all of those harmful chemicals throught the pads of their feet. What great advice!! I use Seventh Generation natural cleaners all over the whole house, but I use diluted vinegar and water for the floors. Vinegar is a natural disenfectant and a great cleaner. I also use a floor steamer monthly to sanitize further and shine up our hardwoods. Be wary of cleaners that advertise being 'natural'....that term hasn't been evaluated by the FDA and there is no guarantee the products are any better. True 'green' companies are the best bets if you don't want to use vinegar. Good luck!! |
