has anyone used the petcheckup
 
hi, i just received this kit in the mail today. it is the petcheckup , which you can test your dogs urine for all different things. it is a home health screening kit for dogs and cats.
i am going to try it out tomorrow.
just wondering if anyone has used it and what they think of it

No, never heard of it. Is your dog having problems? Just wondering why you bought it? How did you find out about it?

well, i looked online to see if they had any type of test that i could check his urine. his urine to me is a little on the yellowish side, he does not drink water at all. i mix in water with his 2 meals per day , thats the only way he will drink it.
it is a at home urinalysis test, it is like a early detection test. i read all about it and it got very good reviews, and it is for 6 months at about 30.00

i think it will be good for all of pets.

Actually, these urine tests strips are much better and cost less. They test 10 things, not just 6 like the ones you ordered. Yours don't test for leukocytes which indicate a urinary tract infection. That is the main thing to test for.

Truthfully, unless your dog is diabetic like Lady and/or prone to urinary tract infections, I can't see the need for those strips.

actually, the test i bought is for 10 things, not 6 like you say , and yes it does test the leukocyte's for a urinary tract infection ( white blood cells). maybe i did pay more than the one you suggest, but i wanted something and this is what came up on google.
truthfully, i personally do not see any reason not to take precaution and use this health screen test.
all i wanted to know if anyone on yt has used this and what did they think.

Of course, there certainly is no reason not to do it. I just hate that you paid $25 for 8 strips when you can get 100 strips for $18.

As I said, I use them because Lady is a diabetic and also to test for uti's since she is prone to them. They are also handy if your dog has a problem with bladder stones and you need to monitor his pH.

IMO, unless you are monitoring a specific health condition, you are better off saving your money and having bloodwork done once a year. That is a much better indicator of overall health.

you see i am a bit concerned because he does not drink water, only when i add it to his food everyday. his urine looks a little too yellow for me, so i thought it was a good idea to check it. the vet wants 100.00 to check his urine without me bringing him in. then the vet said it would be better if i brought him in so he could do a urinary culture on him. i do not even know what that is, or how they do that, but i am sure that bill will be well over 200.00.
i looked at the link you sent me, and is it for humans or dogs? or does it matter ?
the petcheckup sent me the booklet to read and how to do it, i am new at this , so this is good. i will however , next time buy the ones you sent me to see.

Your vet was recommending taking a sterile urine sample with a needle. That way he can be sure it is free of debris and/or bacteria which can skew the results. Your vet will also examine the urine underneath the microscope for crystals which could indicate bladder stones.

A culture is done if a urinary tract infection is suspected. The bacteria can be grown in a petri dish so your vet would know what type of bacteria it is and what antibiotics to prescribe.

This is a really good explanation of a basic urinalysis. Using a dip stick is only one part of it. As you can see, the strips pictured are the ones I have. They are the same for humans and dogs. You just paid a huge mark up for fancy marketing to appeal to pet owners. :(

As I said, these strips are great to have on hand to monitor diabetes or check for a uti, but if you are concerned about your Yorkie's kidney function you really need to have him evaluated by your vet.

Elle57 is from New York according to her avatar. Vet prices are outrageous there. I think dentals are about $500 up there. :eek:

yes, you are right, i am from new york, long island and if anyone knows about the outrageous prices we have here, they would know that vet's really take the eyeballs out of your eyes, everytime you go in for a visit.
dental cleaning are a little more than 500.00 here.
it costs me over 200.00 just for a yearly checkup and a couple of shots, one of which i had a fight about not giving.
