would you believe it... ANOTHER LP question! I swear there should be an LP forum :p So Layla has stage 2 LP... i can feel it slip if i move her leg but otherwise she is normal. However, tonight we went for a walk and she started skipping on it.. pulling it up and putting it down... i almost started crying right there on our walk... she did it off and on for about 2 min and then didn't do it the rest of the walk. My question is.. because this new "symptom" is showing does that mean she is now in stage 3 or could it still be stage 2?? I guess i just don't know if certain symtoms mean certain stages or if she can still be skipping on it and be in stage 2 (what i'm PRAYING for) thanks guys :) |
I think for whatever reason...tonight it bothered her...not necessarily has progressed any worse. If it had...I think you would see symptoms of it bothering her more. Ramsey has mild LP...but she has instances like you just describe. Sometimes I know what's caused it...like renting a beach house with lots of stairs. If I don't carry her up and down...before the 3rd day..she will be noticeably limping. After a few days of no stairs...she no longer limps. I'd suggest watching her...but I know you're already doing that. ;) If you see her continuing to favor it...then it may be time to have it reevaluated. |
She can be skipping if it is in a stage 2...... if it can be put back in place. It probably went back on it's own. I would be concerned that it may be going out more often and maybe ask your vet about signs of it getting into a higher grade. Shelby had a grade 3 & 4 in her back legs before her surgery. They both were out and the #4 was staying that way..... the #3 grade could be put back in, but wouldn't stay there very long. Since her surgery, she is so much better..... no more "bow-legged" walking and she doesn't tire as quickly as she used to. All that extra stress on her hips (because of the bow-leggedness) really tired her out. You also may consider consulting with an orthopedic vet. It will cost you for the consultation, but I think that you would find it to be VERY informative and you also can develop an opinion on the specialist (make sure that you are comfortable and trust he/she) in the case that Layla may need surgery down the road. There are some others that have been thru this surgery with their Yorkies, also. Maybe they can give you more info than this....... and also the internet is a great source of information..... use it to your benefit........ I know that it really helped us. But hopefully, for Layla, surgery is something that isn't necessary at this time. Best Wishes for Layla!! ....... and to you Marci! |
I would guess that she did something to cause a flare up and if I were you, I'd try to keep her quiet for a few days. Libby has grade 2, and I've been giving her flexicose glucosamine complex and she hasn't had a problem in months! She's very active running and jumping, and shows no signs of stress, so I think this stuff is working. My vet told me to keep her skinny and it shouldn't go beyond a 2, so she doesn't get a lot of treats. I hope Layla is okay and her LP hasn't progressed. Maddie and Libby send kisses! |
Thanks Guys Shelby and Seymore- I live near Guelph Ontario (about 1 hour away) which is a vet college so i know should she need surgery.. we would for sure go there.... the resources are great. She goes in October for a blood panel and a BAT so i'll ask her then... and try and keep her leg quiet until we get back home (we are visiting family in Northern Ontario) I hope you are all correct and she hasn't progressed... it makes me sick to think of her going through what i've seen so many pups go through on here... but well do what we have to do! i think i'll start her back on her supplement when we get home (it tends to make her throw up) but i'll do what i can to keep her tummy settled so I can get the supplement in her! |

Better Glucosamine There is a better product - its called Cetyl-Mgo to Response Products and look at the video then go to e-bay and search for Cetyl-m and you will get it for about half what Jeffers or other places charge . It is what keeps my 14 and 16 yr old girls going. Also a young one that was in a accident before i rescued her. Its FANTASTIC - pm me if you need more info It takes about 1/2 tablet a day - the dogs love the taste and that is the treat the old girls get and they look for it each morning. There are 120 tablets per bottle and they break easily and so its really cheap as i get most of mine for around $20 a bottle on ebay. |
I apologize for disrupting you guys as you try to figure this out, but what is "LP"? I am knew to this site, and thought I would browse around. My little Hopey had a leg she would favor like that, not always, but now and then. She would "skip" with it up. I though perhaps "arthur" was a problem. Now it sounds like a certain condition? |
