Rabies and booster shots Is it okay to have my 4-month puppy get her Rabies and Booster Shots at the same time? She is due next week. TIA! :) |
No, rabies should always be given separately. |
We also give them seperately, mostly to lessen the overload on thier little bodies. |
I see... But my friend's puppy had both at the same time a week ago. Is that a problem? |
Most vets give them at the same time because they just really don't know any better. Ellie had rabies and DHLPP-C at the same time. It was the first time for lepto but the second or third time for rabies. She had a very serious reaction and I could've lost her without emergency medical help. Now what one did she react to? Most probably the lepto but because she had never had it before and they usually react the second or third time after receiving the same vaccine, it might have been the rabies. Next year she is due for rabies. We can't prove that she reacted to that one and again, it could've been the lepto, so she may end up getting it again and her life may be put in danger. So, give as few as possible at one time. If there is a reaction you will be able to tell better what one is causing it and not give that one anymore. Giving too many at once can overwhelm the immune system and that could lead to negation of immunity. Because the rabies shot is most likely to cause reactions, it is best to just give it separate. |
I see... what kind of serious reaction? Allergies? oh no, now i worry for my friend and her baby :(:( |

She threw up, collapsed and started to go into shock. Vaccines do have serious side effects (as do most drugs) and should never be taken lightly, especially how often they are given... |

Thank you so much for the response :) |
Yikes. Scary stuff. I went to get my baby's third set last week. They told me to come back in 2 weeks for his rabies. They said it's hard on their little bodies. Scary to think how serious it really can get. |
I knew you were supposed to separate Rabies with other shots but since my vet acted as if it were no big deal I went with it. I saw this post, figuratively smacked myself on the head, and promptly changed her appointments to have separate visits for her booster and her Rabies! Thanks! |
