food brand ? i've heard good and bad things about certain foods so im not sure what kind kind to feed Kingston. the breeder told me to give bill jac and thats what i've been feeding him for two weeks now but i've never really heard of that brand. what kind of brand can i give him? i want him to be super healthy. |
That's not a great brand, it's actually a 1 star food. I think giving a grain-free food is very important. A lot of dog are allergic to grains and will scratch like crazy from foods with grains in them. Some grain-free foods are Wellness (which Petco and Pet Supermarket sell), Orijen, Innova Evo, Merricks, and Solid Gold, to name a few. Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost is a great site that ranks all the dog food brands. I'd stick to a 5 or 6 star food. I feed Meeko Wellness Core and he loves it. He's also tried Orijen and loved that as well. It depends on what kind of store you have around you. Good luck! |
I used to feed Maya Eukanuba ... but I've read it is not good at all .... so now I have Royal Canin ..... :) |
I use Royal Canin as well. It's great! |
Chicken soup for the puppies/dog lovers soul!! Also, I mix Taste of the Wild(fowl) in. |

Another good place to look for info is: Dog Food Review Ratings It directs you to several site that examine commercial brands, supplements, raw feeding and home cooked. And remember, the food that is best for one dog may not be the best choice to match the individual dietary needs of the next. |
I agree with BamaFan, it's a great place to find the ingredients of all the different foods, but I think each of us has to make our own decisions about which foods are good for our particular dogs. |
The site is an excellent source! I use Life's Abundance. I breed and I have puppies and an old dog (16 years old) - all eat the same food. It is a holistic approach to nutrition for them. Click on the link in my signature line for information on the product. I'm happy to send out free samples too! |
how much protein should a 7 lb yorkie have? how do i judge what food is the best? alot of them say 42% protein and i was wondering if that is too much. i want to start weaning him off of the homecooked food and put him back on dog food. |
I prefer around 25-30% because too much higher is hard on the kidneys for processing. That's just my opinion. :-) |

Have you ever read Orijen's white paper? If you are asking about appropriate protein levels, it's probably a great time to read this - it's really a super paper. It will dispel a lot of the misinformation out there. :) |
I had mine on Wellness for awhile. I was having to drive over an hour and a half to get it. I found a local store that carries Chicken Soup for puppies so I switched them to it. They love it!! |
I'm mixing Lotus with Merrick's Before Grain. He LOVES Before Grain. I am probably going to just get him on BG. |
