Pet Food Recall as of 9/12/08 There has been a big pet food recall for foods manufactured at a Pennsylvania facility due to possible contamination with Salmonella. These do not include the higher quality brands, but I know some people on here feed things like Pedigree, PMI Nutrition, Ol Roy, etc. Cat foods like Special Kitty are also involved in this recall. When will it end??? I am so glad I homecook. At least they have to be a "little bit" more careful with human food. |
Thanks for posting this, I thoroughly understand why you homecook, it's really discouraging sometimes, and doesn't seem to be getting any better. One thing that I don't understand is that this concerns salmonella, and raw feeders say that salmonella isn't dangerous to dogs; does anyone understand the discrepancy? |

I am also extremely glad that we homecook for Miko and Emma. The pet food contaminations are really getting out of hand. The following info is from the website I listed in my original post: Salmonella can cause serious infections in dogs and cats, and, if there is cross contamination caused by handling of the pet food, in people as well, especially children, the aged, and people with compromised immune systems. Healthy people potentially infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. On rare occasions, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers. Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Animals can be carriers with no visible symptoms and can potentially infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. |

I heard the news..... ....and this is scary. I have had him on so many different foods and one of the was the Pedigree Butcher Cut, tho I mixed it in his dry food. He turns his nose up to it last time I tried to give him some. My Yorkie is on "Royal Cainine" now. I do know someone whom gives him the wet Pedigree. He gave me a package a long time ago to try....and boy did it stink to high heavens. :animal-pa Anyways, I threw out the rest of the Butcher Select of Pedigree this am when I heard about the recall.:animal-pa |
