Swallowing big pills? How do you all get your yorkies to swallow larger pills? My yorkie has been given Omega pills to take. They're rather large, larger than his kibble. I tried giving him one to see if he'd eat it on his own and he put it in his mouth and spit it out about 20 times before I took it away from him. I've seen those pill pockets but since they're so big he'd have to bite it, and it's a gelcap so I'm sure he'd notice the difference in texture and spit it out, I'm guessing the same would go for cheese...Any thoughts? |

That's kinda what I do: take a small pair of scissors and snip the end of the capsule open and squeeze the oil onto their food and mix. They're too small for such large capsules ... |
I wrap his heart guard medicine in a thin layer of mozzarella cheese. |
Normaly dont feed Greenies, but they got pill pockets, mine just gobble it up now ! Good Luck ! |
As Marci said, capsules should usually be opened for dogs (unless your vet has said otherwise). It just isn't healthy to try and make them swallow something that big (my opinion only). |
Yep, Omega pills are usually pierced on one end and can be squeezed right on their food or yogurt or cottage cheese, etc. |
