Not chewing food Hi everyone! I'm feeding Honeybee Nutro tiny bites and she loves it. It's the size of a pea. The problem is that she won't chew it. She inhales it by swallowing it whole. She has all her teeth and her gums are in good shape. They were cleaned in July but she still wont chew. Is she getting less nutrition because of this? Do you think if I should switch to a larger size to force her to chew or does it really matter? Thanks everyone, |
Not sure.. I would think the main issue would be that it is more difficult to digest since it is not chewed. |
i would switch to a bigger kibble... mix with little kibble so she gets what she likes. hope this helps |
:thankyou2 Thank you, think I'll try the bigger kibble mixed. She does chew her little dog biscuits. |

I agree, your baby is getting their nutrients just fine. Zeke, my late pom/chi mix, never chewed a bite of food in his life. I rescued him from a shelter, at 2 lbs, that had him in with 30 lb dogs....he literally inhaled his food his whole life. Feedings lasted 10-15 seconds for him. I know your worry! |
yes of course they will get the nutrients they need even if they do not chew food. food actually cleanses the teeth, is good for their gums and strengthens the jaw muscles |
Hi there And welcome to YT ! I would be very Leary about feeding any Nutro products. Because of all the Recalls and deaths of dogs lately. |
Thank you mscat, but back when that happened, I was on top of it. Nutro's dry food was not involved. Honeybee did receive a gift basket for Christmas that had a wet pouch included. Thank God I never fed it to her, right after that the recalls started. |

Oh, I haven't heard any recent news regarding dog food recalls. Where is it posted? Thanks |
Nutro Thank you for the article, Rosie's Momma. I don't know how to reply to you direct. This is terrible news. Why hasn't this been in the press I wonder? The bag I have now is the largest and was purchased some time ago. But, now I don't feel safe buying this brand in the future. Last year Nutro had specific information on their website that eased my fears. |
