Frontline every 2 WEEKS! My baby is always itching! I live in condos that were converted from old apartments, and I think they just don't treat the grass. I bathe her every two weeks, and it seems right around the time before it's time for her bath she starts scrathing like crazy again, so I just treat her again after I take she gets a bath. Is this ok??? I figure most of it gets washed out from the bath anyways. My vet says its ok, but I'm switching vets cuz I don't like this guy...long story, so I don't know if I should believe him...PLEASE HELP YORKIE FRIENDS!!! |
When you bathe her, have you tried an oatmeal shampoo and a leave in conditioner? General Lee, at the age of 3 months, had very dry skin according to the vet. I started with the oatmeal shampoo and conditioner and now at 11 months his skin is fine. The vet is very happy with it also. He gets a bath once a week except the weeks he goes in for grooming. The way the vet explained the Frontline treatment, it goes into their skin with in a day or so. I would be very careful about treatment every 2 week especially if you do not see any fleas. Remember it is still a toxic chemical. General Lee is also on seasonal allergy pills to help with the scratching. I am glad you are looking for a different vet. |
Sorry to hear your having a tough time with fleas in your area......in my opinion it is a bad idea to put flea treatments on your pet every two weeks. If your vet advises this I would switch also. Most vets are very ignorant on the dangers of flea meds. A vet will tell you they are very safe, this is far from the truth. These treatments are very hard on the livers, thyroid and kidneys of your dogs. If you do choose to use them the pet must not be bathed 48 hours before applying it. It needs the oils on the skin to work properly. You also have to wait at least 24-48 hours after applying to bath so as to not wash off. Here's a link that might help with some natural alternatives... Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - Ticks, fleas, bees, flies, snakes and other gremlins! And how to deal with them! I don't know if this will work, but here is a link about flea treatments and how they work.... http://www.apnm.org/publications/res...leachemfin.pdf Good luck..... |
I would not treat her that frequently. Think about it, it's really a pesticide that you're putting on your dog how can it be good to use more of it? I don't even use it as frequently as it's recommended because I'm too afraid of the risks. I don't have any fleas or ticks either. Why don't you look for some alternatives that are more natural. Do you ever feed her fish oil? That might help with this or it's possibly that she has more of an allergic reaction to the products you are useing, maybe you could try something else. |
No way would I put it on every two weeks |
I wouldn't do it myself - that's way too much for her. You can switch shampoos - that could be what's making her itch - are you rinsing her really really well ?? are you still seeing fleas ?? you could try Advantage - I heard that's good too - but dont do this more than one a month |
Frontline is waterproof so you shouldn't have to use it that often. Sometimes fleas become resistant to certain treatments in an area and you have to try something different. K9 Advantix is a good one to try. Make sure you get that one. Regular Advantage isn't waterproof. Are you sure it is fleas that is making her scratch? It could be allergies, dry skin, even a mite. |
My dog seems to get sick every time I use Advantage on him. Has anyone else had this problem? |
frontline use you should never use more than once a month. frontline is waterproof and will not come off. my vet has told me to even take my yorkie off frontline for january and feb so his body can have a rest from it. but i also live in cold climate and ground is frozen during those months. my vet also told me that k9 advantix is not good for little dogs as they also get upset stomachs when using it. most do not do well. really made for big dogs. hpefully my vet knows what he is talking about:aimeeyork |
If your Yorkie is over 5 pounds ask your vet about once a month Comfortis pill. IT WORKS! |

My vet also stated only once a month and we will stop with the first freeze. |

No bath two days before or after the frontline application makes it work much better. Mine get itchy if they don't get a bath once a week. I use a gentle shampoo and dilute it before putting it on, then rinse rinse rinse. |
I spelled my k9 advantix wrong Quote:
