Eating Issues I have no idea where the "eating issue" thread I started is, so here I go again. Maxwell hasn't eaten today....well, the few treats that were hidden and the one dental one I gave him this am. I've gone thru so many different foods and thought I found the one he liked since we've finished one bag of "Royal Cainine" and now on the 2nd bag. What am I going to do~? I went a week ago to the Vet and am going back tommorrow. I have tried different tactics of feeding him, which has worked at times. I put food down and if he doesn't eat, I take the bowl away. This doesn't work all the time either. I praise him when he eats and give him a treat after he eats. Maybe too much praising isn't good~? I have some bacon & egg treats (Snauges (sp) brand) and give that to him in the morning sometimes before his breakfast and sometimes afterwards. He didn't touch it yesterday. I use to hid treats in and around his toys and too many too. I thought it would keep him busy, but too many treats then he didn't eat his food. I hardly give him treats like that anymore. What do I do~? Please everyone, I need help of what do do~? I need ideas or something since this is upsetting to me. Thanks. |
Definitely cut back on the treats. Yorkies have small stomachs (well mine do as they are small..not sure how much your baby weighs) and by giving him too many treats just like a kid they will fill up on the junk and neglect the food. If you want to switch his food I suggest maybe trying samples. You should also try to not switch up food too much as it will cause stomach upset. I would see about getting samples of one or two of the best quality foods you can find and see from there which he will like. |

Anyone else have any ideas~? |
Trixie will not eat after a dental treat. Apparently, the dental treats are so good, she will finish a whole one in an hour. I think this is what is happening to your yorkie. Those treats are big enough to fill them up for almost the whole day. Plus, you never know if you drop something on the floor, or she finds something and eat it, and you are not aware of that. In my case, my daughter, who is four, is a messy eater, and she drops half of her food on the floor. Thank god I feed my babies only healthy foods. Anyway, I would not worry about him not eating, just cut on the treats, as I will. |

Still Having Eating Issues I took him to the Vet today and he got a good bill of health. She told me to try taking the food away in 30 mins or so time, which I have tried. I've gone thru like 8 something types of foods. She mentioned to try the K9 Maintainence food by Science diet, if he would eat it with his regular "Royal Cainine" food or inbetween. I couldn't find it. I got some raw food that one of our dog stores is carrying. Any of you all have luck with the raw foods~? Do you think my Yorkie wants some "real meat"~? Any suggestions are appreciated. |
