Chewing and scratching! Help please! I have been feeding Pebbles Nutro puppy food since before I brought Doodlebug home at the end of June. The last time I went to buy food I think I might have grabby a different brand that looked similar but no longer have the original bag. I usually divide up the food into ziploc bags so I didn't realise until last week that the shape of the kibble was different. All of a sudden they both are scratching and chewing on their paws. Pebbles is doing this more than Doodlebug. I'm pretty sure they do not have fleas since I washed them both in Dawn and checked the water really well for any floaters. I just purchased Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison for them to try and they really seem to like it. If it is the food how long will it take before they stop itching and chewing? I real so bad especially for Pebbles since she is really scratching more. Could it be their heartworm meds? Treats or maybe latex toys? I have a very bad latex allergy and just realized some of their toys had latex and tossed them out since I was itching too. Is there a good shampoo that will help with the itching? |
Up to 6-8 weeks if it's food allergies. I would use a shampoo containing oatmeal for some itch relief. Are they only scratching/chewing on their paws or other areas also? |
Chewing Feet I ALSO HAVE A FEMALE YORKIE THAT CHEWS HER FEET CONTINUOSLY. sHE HAS TO EAT A LOW RESIDUE DOG FOOD BECAUSE OFN STOMACH PROBLEMS. THE VET SAYS SHE IS BORED! DOES ANYONE KNOW OW SOMETHING TO PUT ON THEIR NAILS, AS THIS IS THE ONLY THING SHE BITES, THAT MIGHT TASTE NASTY BUT WOULD NOT HARM HER? SHE BITES HER NAILS SO MUCH THAT I HAVE TO FILE THEM EVERY OTHER DAY OR THEY WILL SCRATCH YOU TTERRIBLE. THANKS FOR ANY HELP. |
Pebbles is scratching pretty much all over and chewing her feet as well. Doodlebug is just occasional scratching. Do you think that this could have been such a drastic change in only 1 large ziploc bag of food? I think the food was very similar and name Nurto and Nutri and I just happened to grab a different bag. I store it in the laundry room and take one bag out at a time. I looked at the 2 bags yesterday and they both had a different shape kibble. I also bought a anti itch shampoo and used it on both last night. It has oatmeal and aloe but she it still itching. I feel itchy for her |
How old is Pebbles, sometimes they develop allergies around a year old. You may want to read the following. This is a continuing/constant issue for us, Stella is taking Atopica to help control the scratching. Good luck Is Your Pet Itching for Relief? |
