Two rows of teeth at 6 months Hi all, I know some yorkies have problems and retain their baby teeth, I never had this problem with Willis, but Darcy is now 6 months old and she has almost all of her baby teeth and her new adult teeth, She is going to the vets on Friday to be Spay, and wondered if you think the vet will suggest pulling all her baby teeth out whilst under ? or leave them a little longer. I am worried this will cost me a fortune as they usually charge per tooth. What age should baby teeth be out by?? Thanks |
Lucky is 6 months to. He had double bottom front teeth for about 2 weeks. He lost 1 about 4 days ago and the other yesterday. I was worried that I would have to get his pulled to but they fell out on there own. I gave him lots of hard stuff to chew on. Like ice, pigs ear, bully bones. |
Pebbles had 2 double teeth and they were removed when she was spayed. One was right in the front and the adult tooth never moved into the correct spot~not she has a gap. I believe the teeth are usually removed during the spay/neuter so they do not have to be put under twice. If I remember correctly it was very minimal only a few dollars per tooth and would probably cost more to go back for the anesthesia to have them removed later. |
My vet told me to wait until all of Suzi's adult teeth were in. She is 6 months old too. I want to have the baby teeth pulled at the same time her spay is. IF yours has all of her adult teeth in then it is a lot easier to have it done during the spay. My vet told me that it is $18.00 for all of them removed. It was not at all what i was thinking it would be. :aimeeyork |
Our Dr. Lucy waited until Toto was 8 months old to spay and remove her remaining baby teeth [quite a few]. She absolutely would not spay until she was either 6 months or 2 lb. ... she wasn't 2 lb. until she was 8 months. Dr. Lucy said in the smaller Yorkies, the "spay by 6 months rule" didn't have to be adhered to. Good luck ... I personally feel that it's better to wait than to risk putting them under twice. |
Theodore has the same problem, he's 6 months and we just got 12 baby teeth extracted and got him neutuered at the same time too. |
My Halle is just over 7 months old and I've noticed lately that she too has double sets of some (or many???? I can't tell for sure) of her teeth. I've been debating for a week or so on how long was "OKAY" to wait before the retained baby teeth might cause problems for the new teeth coming in. I have decided to call the vet tomorrow for an appointment. |
Baby Teeth My Teddy was 9 mo. old when I got him and he still had lots of baby teeth, I gave him lots of stuff to chew on and I also pulled some, after chewing they get really lose and almost fall out.:D |
I would think that if she is going to have her spay done at that time already, it would be best to go ahead and have them removed. It would eliminate the possibility of her having to have anesthesia a second time for just that. :thumbup: |

I waited until Pixie was 13 months old before I had her spayed, she's a petite 3lbs, so I left it as long as possible..she had her first season at 9 months..they removed her retained baby teeth at the same time..7 in total. |
Just an update, Darcy had her spay on Friday, along with having quite a few teeth removed and her microchip fitted. She was poorly Friday night, but fine by Saturday, and back to normal now, Her wound has been covered with a sticky plaster and she has not attempted to remove it. It is impossible to stop her leaping around and jumping though, she is leaping around all the time . Total cost was £183.00 |
