Tucker's not eating :-( Hi all....Tucker is 5 months old and this past week hasn't been very interested in eating at all. I feed him the dry Halo Spots Stew(all natural and high quality) He used to gobble it right up. Today I tried enticing him with baby food(beef), scrambled egg, ground beef etc. Although he did eat the ground beef, he turns his nose up at everything else. He is not acting sick. Peeing and pooping ok. I had him out walking and my Granddaughter came running over and he was chasing her all over the place, so he seems fine. I don't want him going this long in between feedings. He's a big boy...8lbs. Any thoughts? |
Gracie went thru little times of being picky. I attributed them to her teething and growth spurts. It rarely lasted more then a few days. I would crack her kibble so that she could eat it easier while teething. At that age tho, if it continues for too long you should probably take him in for a check up. Even tho he appears to be fine with the running and playing, there could be a physical issue keeping him from being able to eat. |

Joey went through a period of being picky too, and this is a critical period. You have taught him to hold out for better food. Ground beef is really high in fat, and Yorkies are prone to pancreatitis, so you might want to be careful with that. Some baby food, has onion in it, which can be highly toxic to dogs, so be aware of this. Also, the diet doesn't sound very balanced. At his weight you really don't have to worry about hypoglycemia, and I think you would be wise to find a balanced dog food, and feed him that, he will eat when he's hungry. |
Halo Spots Stew Hi...I just gave him ground beef(boiled) yesterday because it was hours and hours since he ate last. I have him on one of the best dry dog foods. It's Halo's Spot Stew. I first saw it on the Ellen Degeneres show. I think she owns part of the company. There is human grade chicken as the first ingredient with no rendered parts or by-products. No fillers. It's a very high quality food for dogs and that's why I am so upset with him not eating. I don't want to revert to giving him ground beef and such.Do you think he's smart enough to know that if he doesn't eat his food, Mama will give in and give him things she eats? Do I have a little stinker? Link to the Halo site......... Natural Pet Care Products from Halo |
Could he be teething and the kibble is harder to eat? Roxie seemed ot be less interested in eating when she was losing baby teeth. |
I recently switched to the prey model diet, but was feeding Halo kibble before. (Both Oscar and I really liked it ... it seems to be a pretty good quality dog food). While he was on the kibble, I did feed him boiled chicken occasionally and he wouldn't touch the kibble afterward. I agree with the above poster who said that your guy has learned to hold out for the REALLY good stuff! Oscar was also picky on the kibble and would go through periods (a day or two) when he would just push his food around with his nose and not eat much. Dogs won't voluntarily starve themselves though and when your pup gets hungry enough, he will eat. (Barring any sickness of course - if there are changes in his poop/pee habits, listlessness, vomiting, or anything along those lines, definitely get him to the vet). I wish you the best and hope he's back to his old self soon! |
my 4month puppy is also very picky :( i have no choice but to add boiled chicken liver to her kibble. but after a few days, it seems she's already losing interest in it. I don't know what to do. Because from what i've heard it is not okay to frequently keep changing or mixing different dog foods. But she's a tiny girl and i'm afraid she might get hypoglycemic so i'm pretty concerned. |
Daisy is just like yours, currently, she`s on wellness super 5 mix just for puppies , but, in order for her to eat I`m using a trick that its working; I mix one tsp of wellnes wet food and she loves it, but I dont know if thats a good thing, it does`t get very mushy still gets it`s crunchiness but , the dry kibble, she won`t eat it, and I`ve already tried letting her with just the dry food for two days, and she gets really hungry, cries, licks the floor looking for crumbs, but doesn`t`t touch her kibble. |
Tucker is doing better eating his dry food. I did as suggested and just waited it out and he finally got hungry enough and ate his kibble. He's a little buzzard! Looks at me with those shiny black eyes and knows he has me wrapped around his little paw but I didn't give in. It's best for him to eat a high quality, all natural puppy food but I guess he doesn't see it that way. LOL!! What would we all do without these little heart catchers? :D |
