Low Blood Sugar Hello everyone! I am fairly new to this site, and kinda just starting to get how everything works!:D Anyways, I am getting a yorkie in a couple of weeks, and I had read that they have low blood sugar and you are supposed to buy something called Nutri-Cal? I was just wondering if any of you had any advice that could help me out a bit more with what to do about their low blood sugar. Thanks!:aimeeyork |
Make sure your baby eats small meals regularly at first so that your he/she does not have a hypoglycemic episode which can be scary. Nutri-cal is a supplement that can be given in a tiny amount if your baby skips a meal/is not eating properly OR it can be used if your baby is actually having a hypoglycemic episode to raise the blood sugar. Make sure not to give too much b/c you can have a spike in blood sugar and then he/she can crash again. The best thing to do to prevent hypoglycemia is to feed small meals regularly and keep food available for your baby to eat whenever she is hungry. |
Okay thank you very much. I sure hope I don't have to go through a hypoglycemic episode! |

Good post. |
Eating and not stressing the new puppy out is key to preventing it. Be sure you know the warning signs, lethargy, falling over, walking like they are drunk, seizures, spaced out and get them help immediately. Hopefully your baby will never experience this but knowing the signs and treatment can save their lives. Can't wait to see your baby! |
Okay thanks everyone!! I'll post pics once I have her! |
