Plastic food/water bowls We are preparing to bring home our first puppy and we stopped by PetSmart today to pick up a few things, well we picked up a set of food/water bowls, I liked them because they have things on the bottom so they won't slide on the floor. I didn't even think twice about them being plastic at the time. Is plastic okay? I know they say for humans to not use the same plastic bottle over and over so do they make these out of a different plastic? It is hard plastic of course. Are they okay as long as I don't put them in the dishwasher subjecting them to high temps? (that is how they say water bottles release toxins) |
Plastic is not the best choice for food and water bowls. Stainless steel or ceramic would be much better. Plastic holds bacteria and water sitting in a plastic bowl during the day is not good. Can you just change them for the above? I think you would be happier. Plus the stainless and ceramic don't stain. Congratulations on your little one and good luck. |

Thanks good to know... I just wish I would have thought about it before buying them lol |
I used to use plastic but they do stain easily and then I found out that plastic can cause contact dermatitis. I went to a stainless steel water bowl and didn't like how part of it wasn't getting clean. Then I went to ceramic which I love but Ellie's bowls developed this strange smell. We bleached them but the smell won't totally go away. So now those are out. Now I use Pyrex because they are made in the US and because I don't want Ellie around glass unsupervised, she will be getting Rubbermade for her cage. |
Grooming issues When I groom Odie, he becomes a different pup. He hisses at the brush and goes haywire!!! (literally) I have tried to do some of the things that Ceasar does when he grooms but wow what a nightmare. Just bathing, brushing takes over 1 hour and that is for a 2.6 lb yorkie. Anyone have any good grooming tips? |

1 Attachment(s) I use tart bowls and I love them bc they have a very low rim, they don't tip one bit, and they clean up spotlessly. I just love 'em! |
Do the ceramic bowls slide all over the floor? |

I have the ceramic bowls in a wrought iron holder. It put the bowls at just the right height for the yorkies and keeps then in one place. |

No, i have not had that problem with ceramic bowls. Sometimes, though Suzi will push them herself. I did the same thing too. Bought the plastic ones. Then heard they were no good for the dogs. I also used placemats too. But, Suzi played in her water dish, and it was a soaking wet mess. :aimeeyork |
All of my animals use ceramic bowls |
