what treats does your yorkie like I was just wondering what treats are loved by your yorkies. I want to start training Riley to sit and lay down, the basic commands, but I cant find a single dog treat that he will eat? the only thing he would accept was cheese, and now he is turning his nose up at that too, anyone have any suggestions? |
Both of mine love the "Pupcorn" treats that I've been buying at Walmart. They come in cheese flavored (which I haven't tried yet) and peanut butter flavored. They're low calorie, low fat and low sodium and you get a large jar of them for less than $3. The nice thing about them is that they're small enough to use for training. You don't want anything that they're going to take 10 minutes to eat. Mine like most "treats", but I make most of their treats other than the Pupcorn. I've made apple treats, banana treats, and just regular beef flavored treats ~ they seem to like them all. |
Ill have to try the pupcorn, I never even heard of that before, but ill look at walmart, and if he dont like it, my bichon and golden retreiver will eat anything so if all else fails ill give it to them. thanks |
Honestly Punkin is a porker she eats everthing that falls to the ground you would think we dont feed her! piper will eat when she wants or sometimes she just takes what Punkin has and hides it |
Mine like strawberry yoqurt cherios. I would also use small pieces of lunch meat when I was teaching commands |
I hate the Pupcorn, I bought a tub of it (it comes in a huge tub) and ended up throwing it out. It felt stale and was so hard to break into smaller pieces and took Lilly forever to eat. She loves the Snausages at Wal-mart though or the Pup-Peronis. I like getting soft chew treats because whenever I get something that's hard, she just hides it in her bed or leaves it laying on the floor and won't eat it. |
My two love the soft Dental Treats from Healthy PetNet. They look like cookies. My BIL tasted them and even he said they were good. :D;) |
the cherrios sound interesting, Ill have to try that and see how that goes, I cant figure why he is so picky when it comes to treats. |
Trixie used to like the dental treats for small puppies, but now she likes hard boiled egg whites (only for training pourposes). Now, I have tryed every dog treat out there, and she wont eat them. |
One of our YT members makes delicious, healthy treats called Yorkie Yummies. Her user name is Chattiesmom. My Toby loves them. Also he loves Zuke's brand treats especially the glazed chicken Z-FILETS. The website is Zuke's – Healthy, Natural Treats for Dogs & Treats for Cats. I've used these to train Toby to Sit, Down, Wave, and High-Five. He's so smart. Good luck. Scoop |
I also use Zukes All Natural Treats for training small dogs.:animal-pa |
Mine like Zukes and Yorkie Yummies by Chattiesmom. I also give them cooked veggies, cauliflower seems to be the fav at the moment. |
Zukes traing treats are good and good for them. |
I have a really picky eater, Zoie. When I had her in obdience classes I had to get creative because she wouldn't eat the training treats they have out there. They were too big for her she was small and it didn't matter how small I would break it up for her. She would get full. So I had to take cheese, and turkey meat for her and give her very small amounts when training her. She did really good with that. Now she will do Jerky. But it has to be really good for her to have treat. She gets cheese after her bath and grooming every time. She knows the word cheese and runs to the fridg. |
I trained with honey nut cheerios and cheese, but you say they dont work??? Or if they dont. Any way , now we keep cups of rewards around the house for him to earn and they are filled with tiny pieces of carob chip doggie cookies from thePetco treat bar. |
