Natural Balance Dog Food Rolls?? While at Puppy Kindergarten, the trainer gave Bella some as a treat (Lamb, I believe--she freezes it and then cuts it into strips so it's treats sized) and she LOVED it!! I feed her Wellness dry food, but I was thinking of getting some of this to use as training rewards only. Does anyone know anything about it?? Good/bad? I looked at their website and the ingredients looked ok to me, although I thought the Protein content at a min. of 11% seemed awefully low especially when it seemed like proteins were the main ingredients. Also, I tried to look for past recalls and found a couple in their canned food and in one of their dry foods.... It's a training reward and not her main diet, but I want to be sure I don't give Bella something that is bad for her. Thanks!! |
I know a breeder who uses Natural Balance raw medallions and really likes them. |
I have never used the rolls but Buddy has been on NB Orgainc for three years and it's a high quality dog food. I am happy with the results and wouln't put him on anything else. It's a good dog food. I would imagine the rolls have the same quality to them. |
The ingredients look fair (not great) for a treat. Protein content in treats really doesn't matter because her protein requirement should be met with the food she gets. With canned foods and food rolls you have to convert the food to a dry matter basis to figure out how much protein and fat it really contains because of all the moisture. So you are just mathematically taking the water content out to see protein and fat content. All you do is divide the protein (or fat) by the reciprocal of the moisture. So the protein is 11% and the moisture is 40%. The reciprocal of the moisture is 60% (100-40). So 11 divided by 60 is about 18%. |
I just started feeding the roll about 2 weeks ago any my puppy loves it. The lady at the pet store said it could be used as food so I feed that along with my dry food instead of feeding him wet food as often...He loves it. He didn't like the beef flavor but I feed the turkey and the lamb. Braxton is so picky so I was excited when I found something he likes. Now I'm just working on finding a dry food that he will really get excited about.... |
