This a vet's blog from what a gather and not only is this article GREAT but at the end she gives pointers for reading pet food labels which can be very overwhelming!

ALSO if you sign up for her newsletter you can download the first 3 chapters of her book that discusses over vaccinating.. just did and can't wait to read it!

i know.. the more i was looking through it the more i thought.. this is good stuff. I signed up for the newsletter and just got one about the myth that elderly dogs need low protein... i can't wait to sit down and look through the whole site.

I signed up too! She totally gets raw too. I just love her - I want her as my vet. She is completely against overvaccinating. :)

lol.. i know.. i'd highly consider moving! she should teach like ALL the classes at a vet school!

The recommendations on vaccinations are far less than even I've seen before!!!!!

Basically says that only "Core" vaccinations are recommended - period!!!
These are: Rabies, Distemper, Adenovirus-2 (Hepatitis) and Parvovirus. Breeders should give the first round no sooner than 8 weeks of age and only a second at 14-16 weeks (at least three weeks between). If the additional vaccine is given less than three weeks before the first set - it renders the first set completely ineffective. A "booster" of each should give given at one year and then NEVER again for anything other than rabies.

They do not recommend titer tests to prove immunity as many times the titer test is inaccurate and that a pup showing a low titer score most like still has immunity as well.

There is a Rabies Challenge Committee working to change the 3 year rabies vaccine to a 7 year vaccination as well.

Jodie - I am just loving this vet! I read her free First 3 chapters on vax - and she really only recommends DPH (3-in-1) - and I SO agree with that. But, I can't find a 3-way vaccine on line - so I guess you'd give them all separately or...?

Anyway, I just think she's incredible and plan on sending her an email when I find the time. :)

Wow I just finished reading the 3 chapters and I really enjoyed it as well very knowledgeable reading. My vet has agreed about the vacinating. Un real.

This is really helpful. I'm a fairly new yorkie owner. Right now Cassi has been eating Eukanuba and Cesar (that's what she was fed when I got her)...but after viewing the link in the first post I am definitely going to change her food. I was told by the vet not to switch her food until she's over a year, but I think I may try to do it gradually.

Any suggestions, which kibble and can food I should get?? I was thinking of getting the Innova Puppy Dry Food and Merricks Canned Food. I usually mix the dry kibble with the wet canned food, that's only way I can get my lil furbaby to eat. Any input, would be much appreciated!!!

you do NOT have to wait until he/she is over a year. I'd try and find an all-stages food or a puppy food but please DO change her food. I highly recommend Natural Balance. I know they have a puppy food.
